This is men's basketball. It is one recruit/commitment. It is not a trend.

But it is interesting.

The guy is a top five rated player. He stated his reasons for committing to SMU were to play for HoF Coach Larry Brown and stay close to home.

He mentioned the positive direction of the SMU mcbb program but made no mention about the AAC.

I think the statements by committing recruits about what motivates them (in their school/team selection) bear watching, given the current state of flux of so many teams and conferences.

If SMU, a program that has not been in the NCAA tournament for 20 years, landed the #1 recruit in Texas, does anything else really need to be said about the AAC? I hope Larry Brown sticks around until he is 80.

It's the football side that needs work in recruiting.

I think whatever schools are in the AAC have higher goals, conference-wise. Not hard to see that. In the 1920s, the schools that now makeup the SEC and some of the schools that now make up the ACC were in a 22-school Southern Conference.
