A bad thing for Paige?

To be drafted with the 2nd pick and another player.....maybe Olivia Miles goes no. 1 ?
I don't know how much not being the number one pick would bother Paige......I doubt she would ever say anything publicly, but it might put a bit more of a chip on her shoulder when the WNBA season begins......I like Olivia Miles' game a lot and she is a Jersey girl but I'd take Paige as the first pick in a heartbeat......

While many of us would love to see Paige end up in LA, new Dallas HC Chris Koclanes has already heaped effusive praise on Paige. While he hasn’t come out and declared that Paige is the Wings 1st pick, it’s hard to imagine that he’ll take another player over Paige unless someone makes him an offer he can’t refuse or Paige decides to hang on with UConn for one more season.

Dallas is a franchise in turmoil. Bringing in Paige solves some of their problems both on and off the court. With that said, I have no doubt that Paige and her very talented agent will explore all of their options.

I think the Dallas fans would be very unhappy with team management. They have already sold a huge number of tickets for next season based on the fact that they received the #1 pick and thus Bueckers.

With the only exception of Paige being hurt and unable to play, those folks down in Texas would absolutely revolt if management were to draft the USC forward or the ND guard first!

You're talking about the same city that's been blessed with Jerry Jones. Unhappy fans mean nothing to the people who call the shots in that town.

Sabally announced recently that she won’t return to Dallas. So if Paige isn’t the first pick, my money would be on Iriafen.

Paige is a professional and will give the team and the community her all, wherever that is.
If any team takes Iriafen over Paige or Miles, well they shouldn't be running that team. In fact the old front office for the Wings would for sure do that.

.-.
Cuz that’s been a conversation lately
True, a couple of conversations weren't based on her talents but on her durability, it's a game to us fans but it's a Big business decision for GMs and you can bet tht whn she fell (tackled)the other night GMs with the 2nd thru 4th positions were thinking abt calling Dallas to check for the possibilities of "making a deal tht Dallas can't refuse", and whether we as fans might not like her not being the no. 1 pick....Dallas will accept and will consider those offers.....its not personal, it's business.

Yes, the old Wings front office would for sure do that. The question is will new GM Curt Miller or old CEO Greg Bibb, who oversaw a lot of questionable decisions, have more say.

The legacy of being the number 1 pick I believe would be important to Paige, but I have no doubt she would prefer LA to Dallas for many reasons. As one of the best Uconn players ever, if she doesn't go #1 she might be missing a couple of things on her resume compared to the others that are considered for Mt Rushmore. All of the other candidates were the number 1 pick and won at least one NCAA championship.

They also have Olympic Gold and except for Tina, WNBA championships as well. Paige might get those in time too, but time is running out on the championship in college, so I think the #1 pick probably means something to her. What she probably wants most is for LA to make a trade with Dallas so they can pick her first.

There's plenty of chatter on this issue on the net and our general board.

Most likely Paige just goes to Dallas. It's a huge TV market and a great place to be a star. Coach Paige will sort out the Wings.

There could be a trade. It's the Mystics and Valkyries with most to offer.

Unlikely, but Paige could pass on this draft. Surprisingly, avoiding Dallas is one reason, but joining league on a new CBA is a second one. Unlikely, as Paige has far more income from sponsors than player salary...and she wants to play!

As great a college player Paige is, she'll be a better pro. Surrounded by other players who can (mostly) score at an elite level her passing and play creation is going to shine.

I suspect most WNBA GMs see that.

Well if maintenance is an issue I guess it would depend on wither you would buy a Bugatti or a Porsche.

I continue to think...
that one way or another,
Paige won't play in Dallas
A total mess in more ways than one.
Her braintrust will work out the details

Paige is the best player of the bunch but she plays for a coach that puts zero interest in what her draft stock might be. She will be a point guard in the pros and has played post and now a 2 at UConn. The sad part is the point guard they play is clearly the one player that struggles to play at a UConn level against good teams and she was brought in when UConn was very guard heavy.

With that said I don't see how any GM in the WNBA could possibly not take Paige at number 1. She can do it all and she is the one guard in the college game that I have seen defend stronger players with success. I love Miles as a player but I don't think she is even close to Paige in her overall game and there is way to much risk taking her ahead of Paige.

As it pertains to playing in Dallas I think she will have zero say in that one. Staying in college this year hasn't helped her a bit and staying another year would take her back not forward. Paige needs to be pushed to get better and no player in college can push her.

The reason Paige can "do it all" is because Geno has insisted that she do it all, in part to maximize her utility at UConn and in part to maximize her utility at the next level. By puttiing her in a position to develop a multiplicity of skills, he has made her more NBA worthy than she would have been if she only played traditional point guard.

Yes. The WNBA likes big guards. Paige is 6 foot, but slight of frame. Mixing it up under the basket, as she was forced to do last year, has done nothing but make her more attractive at the next level.

Paige in L.A. would produce a nice nucleus for a "Big 3" with Brinks and Jackson and think abt all publicity and endorsements they would rack up in " The City of Angels".
Former city of Angels, now city of burned out charcoal, tragically sickening.

In the NBA and other sports, being picked number one impacts your salary. Not so much in the WNBA. It does not really matter much when, but rather by whom you are picked.

Given how much flexing Paige does on the court, you’d think she was as big as Giannis.
