Headed to the store at 6 to scoop some vino. Looking for a solid bottle of white wine under $30. Anyone got any suggestions? Preferably Sav B, Chard, or Pinot Grigio.

For 30 bucks you can get a nice white burgundy from France.

Was chatting with @Exit 4 about Chablis and he suggested Jean Marc Broccard.. any suggestions on a white burgundy?

Yeah, $30 is a healthy budget for a nice bottle of white and you should be able score a nice white Burgundy or Chablis for that price.

You could also spend a good deal less and get a banging bottle of Sancerre (the best Sauvignon Blanc imo), or a nice Cortese di Gavi from Italy. Great summer wines.

Try a Muscadet fron France(Loire Valley). Should get a decent one at that price.
Edit; Actually $20-25

Agree on the Sancerre.

Here is one I have bought in CT and liked; I have seen it in a few different package stores:

Ever try Boone's Farm?

Rushed here to say the same thing, French. That's as far as my wine knowledge goes but it sure did the trick back in the day on a limited budget. And the ladies loved it!

A vastly underrated white is the Puilly Fume' from the Loire. It is Sauvignon unlike anything from the US .. Not a US bash
The terrior is unique. A flinty take on the grape. La Doucette comes to mind. Should be right at $30 at a good shop

Just to be clear, because a lot of people got confused when the name "Chablis" got hijacked by California in the 70s and 80s and they used it as a designation for crappy, cheap, medium dry white wine.

Chablis is a region in France that is actually in northern Burgundy, so it is technically a white Burgundy and, like other white Burgundies, is made primarily from chardonnay grapes. But Chablis doesn't taste like other chardonnays. It is un-oaked and has more acid, tastes more crisp and tart and has less fruit flavors than other white Burgundies.

If you are going Char spend $15 and get two bottles

Not a huge white guy but
Tesoro della Regina Pinot Grigio ($22
and
La Scolca Black Label Gavi dei Gavi Cortese($38 to 40)

For 99% of the wine drinking population, there's no difference from a 10.00 and a 150.00 bottle.

If you prefer dry over fruity? Tart flavors? Sweet? Ask a manager at a decent wine shop and try four or five 10.00 bottles.

If they taste good and you like them? They're good wines.

Is that the bottle you brought to my apartment around 27 years ago?

probably. Or a pouilly.
I agree with you on white burgundies . But I’m a Macon or good pouilly fan before chablis

I’m going to go outside the box here.

the best summer white are the Alsace wines.
A great Pinot Gris or Gewurztraminer chilled is delightfully refreshing.

Went with the Sancerre. Thank you @8893 and @UConnfan4ever - absolutely fantastic recommendation.

Also scooped a Muscadet for later @Duncan Idaho. Will report back. Appreciate the feedback, I’m well versed in my knowledge and taste of reds but white wine is a very new area for me.
If you like oysters, Sancerre and oysters is a match made in heaven. Any shellfish, actually.

I came to appreciate whites after reds, too. I knew and liked great Chardonnays, but nothing else. Then I got turned on to Italian whites and everything changed. You could—and should—spend the rest of the summer trying different ones and you will be amazed at how varied and inexpensive they are.

Gavi, as I mentioned above, is one of my favorites. I had a Falenghina last night. I could name another half dozen or more to try off the top of my head:

Verdicchio
Vernaccia di San Gimignano
Orvieto
Arneis
Greco di Tufo
Vermentino
Fiano di Avellino

And any Chardonnay from Piedmont is likely to be very good to great. If you see a Gaja, it will be great, but expensive.

That's just so untrue. The leap in quality from a $10 bottle to a $20 ish dollar bottle is pretty large. I mainly drink reds, but at the $20 price point there is no shortage of really good options.
