Top 3rd, M. Quigley walks the first batter he faces to load the bases with 1 out. A wild pitch brings in a run with 1 out, 6-1 Pirates. Another walk loads the bases with 1 out.

M. Quigley comes out of the game, Garrett Coe takes the mound.

Top 3rd, A fielders choice ground out brings in another run, 7-1 Pirates. Coe then gets a strikeout to finally end the inning.

Hopefully Coe can go a few innings effectively, it would help save the bullpen for the rest of the series.

Glad we got their starter out. Bullpen seems solid. Let’s see what we can do.

Bottom 4th, Hyde with a no out walk, a passed ball puts 2 runners in scoring position. Simmons with a 2 out RBI double driving in 2 runs, 7-5 Pirates. Freeberger follows with an RBI single, 7-6 Pirates. With 2 runners in scoring position, a wild pitch on a Broadhurst walk ties the game at 7. Broadhurst and Studley with a double steal to put 2 runners in scoring position, Padilla drives in both runners with a single, 9-7 UConn.

Bottom 5th, UConn offense leaves 2 runners in scoring position. 9-7 UConn.

Top 6th, Coe starts the inning on the mound.

And Hyde feasting at the plate. Not what people expected coming in.

I watched Hyde play summer ball in Norwich last year. He did well at the plate in Norwich, so I thought he had a chance to continue it some in the spring season with UConn. Hyde showed a really good eye at the plate in Norwich, he drew a bunch of walks.

Yea, he is a better hitter than his stats show, would not have predicted both Morton and Smith to struggle in the same game as Hyde’s breakout, though.
