While deserving of credit for including players whose teams did not win the final game, the author also said that KO was a first-year coach. As a minor point, Louisville did not win the 2013 Championship, because their title was vacated.

Carsen Edward of Purdue would be my choice for top run by a player whose team did not get to the Final 4, though he was held to 2 points in the Elite 8 OT against eventual winner Virginia, after scoring 40 in regulation. Who else?
