A lease for a 7,000 sq ft sports bar in Storrs Center has been signed per Mansfield Downtown Partnership June 15th minutes. That's a lot of space. Could it a Buffalo Wild Wings? Hopefully it will become a great pre and post game watering hole.

If they put a chain brand in there it would be tragic. College towns don't need Applebee's they need an authentic place tied to the U. A place where alumni and fans go because it can't exist elsewhere. They don't Roll Tide at TGI Fridays.

Please get this right or risk the scorn that a wannabe poser deserves.

I don't even care if you call it Sleddog's.

The average size of a Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant is 6400 sq ft per Google. This place is going to be big.

That is like a small Dave and Busters or something. I know its bigger than Buffalo Wild Wings in Southington and Waterbury

Whatever it is, it is the biggest place around the region for a sports bar, outside of the Dave & Busters in Manchester

Great news.

Agree, it needs to be authentic and original to UCONN.

From storrs center to new rec center coming now a sports bar right off campus...the uconn student experience could not be more different than it was 5-10 years ago. Crazy how much change continues to take place up at storrs.

The place will be called Grill 86. Saw that on the Charter Realty web site.

I am skeptical that this will be a real sports bar as we all expect. My guess is a restaurant with TVs that will remain open until 11pm.

Just guessing here, but I can think of a pretty important coach who came to UConn in 1986, so I'm hoping that's the inspiration for the name

They're not going to attract students for night life anyway. The deals at Huskies/Teds/Thirsties(? I think it changed names) are too good, and the old thirsty's has changed names and owners so many times that they can't even stay afloat. Unless they can compete with Nickel night they probably won't want to be open until after 11 except for game days and possibly Friday/Saturday nights.

Do people in their mid-30's to mid-50's still go to the usual dives when on campus for a game?

Hmm, would have preferred Grill 77-74.

I saw the older crowd at Ted's all the time, but less so when Geno's opened.

One of the points of that area is attracting people to stay around after graduating. The place won't necessarily be geared to students.

Wait, UConn is adding ANOTHER place for their 20,000 student body to drink and have fun? But aren't the 15'x15' Ted's and Huskies enough?!?

This university is laughable when it comes to on/off-campus entertainment. The night life can be so barren you forget that it's a major college town. This is greatly needed and only a good start in something that should have been undertaken long ago.

I believe this place will be more than a run of the mill restaurant based on its sq ft. Genos restaurant is 2,700 sq ft, Dog Lane Cafe is 3,900 sq ft and Chucks has 4,890 sf ft. I suspected it will have some type of interactive entertainment, private dining areas and perhaps a brewery. Plus the university has received numerous responses from its RFP for development of a first class on campus hotel with one potential site being adjacent to Storrs Center.
