Did anyone else get sick of hearing about last years 60 point margin?Mentioning it a couple of times 0-k but they kept harping on it. We all know Uconn is a completely different team than last years. At first I was pretty down about the loss but then thought what a magical ride those kids took us thru this year. Haven't enjoyed a year this much since Dee won her third in a row

The 60 put win thing was so stupid- because they never put it in perspective. You are correct!

Didn't have to hear it because I watched TV and listened to WTIC radio for audio. that saved me from Doris, but it didn't save me from seeing Dak about 50 times.

Something tells me the Miss State players got sick of hearing about it

It makes for a good story to frame it as "the team that lost to UConn by 60 a year ago" as the upset was becoming a possibility as the game went on than to provide any real perspective on how the teams are totally different.

The TV commentators essentially lied on a number of occasions saying that "this is a team that beat [Mississippi State] by 60". No, this team does not have Stewie, Moriah, or Tuck. Not even Pullido or Ekmark. This is a different team.

That said, I had almost forgotten that UConn had walloped them last year, but Mississippi State was apparently embarrassed by last year's score, and even went as far as putting the number 60 on their locker room doors. It was a key motivator for them all season to improve. And that they did, to their credit. We had created a monster.

60 this yeah may have happened again this year... if they had Jefferson, Tuck and Stewie

I never get sick of hearing it because the most important part is that Vic Shaffer in his own words was humiliated and actually did something about it. The rest of WCBB should take the same attitude instead of complaining about how UCONN always gets the best players...yada yada... that UCONN bad for the game crap.

Good points.

To me, I don't think MSU wins on Friday if not for what happened in that 60 point loss last year. They definitely used it as motivation. Would it have been the same motivation if the loss had been by 40 or 50 points? I don't know. Sometimes a 1 point loss is more motivation than a huge blowout loss. Still, some might consider the turnaround as some form of "payback" or "karma".

I don't think MSU wins if UConn just plays UConn basketball. Not to take anything away from MSU, but that was a very uncharacteristic UConn game. UConn played most of the top teams in the country during the regular season, so there was no reason to think they wouldn't against MSU, but they are human and not robots, so it happens once every 112 games.

It does mean something.... Look at it from MSU's point of view. They lived with a humiliating defeat...worse in NCAA history for that round of play. I am sure they not only saw it posted up in their locker room all year but that they were forced to watch the game over and over... It absolutely had some motivational impact. You have to credit MSU for being able to put a 64 point loss behind them and to come back on the big stage only one year later facing a team that had its bonafides coming in...111 straight victories, undefeated season having beaten all the top ranked teams this season and having the discipline stick to their game plan and win. I would say the 64 point loss played a big part in their motivation over the year.

The director of that broadcast must have been a Dallas Cowboy fan. Dak got more camera time Friday than some of the players on the floor. He certainly appeared to be all in for his team.

Some are annoyed with the amount of air time Dak got the other night, but I think it gives credibility to WBB with the typical 18-35 male sports fan who may think it's uncool to have an interest in WBB

Absolutely agree. And in the arena, the place went crazy when they showed him on the monitor, especially as the game went on and more of the crowd got behind his team.

So, basically, the arena staff was whipping the crowd into an anti-UConn fervor. Thanks for the impartiality.

No. There are lots of things to fault the NCAA about, including real screw-ups for many of us with so-called Flash Tickets. We had to wait an hour for them to straighten out the mess. But the in house TV folks were showing off one of the few celebrities at the game, and a local favorite as well. Believe me, I resented the many fans who cheered got Anybody But UConn, but the in house TV coverage was perfectly reasonable.

Absolutely agree! MissSt played really well, stuck to their game plan throughout, brought their A game. But they still would not beat UConn without help, either from bad calls or UConn not playing their A game. I am glad that I don't feel the game turned on bad calls. No, the help came from UConn just not playing as well as they usually do. The missed easy shots in the first half, and then the turnovers (some were our fault, not just string defense) and missed free throws in the second half were just enough to lose the game.

Well, that is a good way to look at it.
It is an annoying tendency in sports broadcasting, though. If a top tennis player's spouse is at the match, the camera goes to the spouse countless times as well.
Man, life is so full of these massive problems.

And if the top three picks in the WNBA draft had played for Uconn they would have lost by 60 again...just saying...had no bearing on the game....
