They were mocking him big time on ESPN U radio this morning, and deservedly so. He's simply terrible, period.

You're making my point, in tne Big 12 Nebraska was contending for NCs almost every year and they were fixtures in the Orange and Sugar Bowls. Now, not so much. Same deal for WVU, they were the top dog in BE quite often. Now their bowl game comes quickly after Christmas.
 
Having trouble finding the actual link, but a journo on twitter said he'd talked to BD and it seemed like he should have taken a year off to recover from the trauma of how things ended at UConn...

Leaving the Big 12 was a no-brainer. It hasn't worked out for Nebraska because they have had crappy staffs. All it takes is the right coach. The Big 12 is a cluster****.

The conference WVU left literally doesn't exist anymore, and you're arguing they made a mistake in leaving? That's insane.

Things weren't going to be left alone and schools had to act in their best interest. Both did. The performance on the field isn't thanks to the conference, it's due to the coaching and their failures.

The Big East might still exist had programs not bailed. West Virginia, Miami, Virginia Tech were all marquee teams from the BE and would have kept that conference elite. And to blame WVU and Nebraska's fall to mediocrity on coaching staffs alone is inaccurate.

Nebraska would meet teams like OSU or Michigan or Wiscy or PSU in NYD Bowls. Now they play each other in the regular season and cannabalize each other long before the bowls begin. College football was better beforethe P5 nonsense started.

What is being implied here is that Diaco's ego and his inability to accept the fact that he was an absolute failure as a head coach at UConn has negatively impacted his ability to be a decent DC at Nebraska. Diaco tries to exhibit a persona of a positive forward thinking coach that doesn't dwell on failure but wants the players to learn from it. However, I do think that Diaco's desire to erase the UConn experience from his resume and from his mind rather than accept the outcome and learn continues to haunt him. He has consciously or subconsciously applied tons of pressure on himself and his players to be an immediate success at Nebraska so everybody forgets UConn. In actuality, his years at UConn will be under more scrutiny now that he has followed up with another dud performance. He will be delegated to a LB coach somewhere in the near future.

Woefully naive and self-defeating.

You're arguing the conferences they left would have been stronger had they stayed. True. You're also arguing it would have been easier for them to make NYD bowl games from those stronger conferences. Self-defeating.

Nebraska still would have played Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Colorado, and Texas A&M.

WVU still would have played Miami, Pitt, Virginia Tech, and BC.

After Cuse and Pitt gone, they had no choice but to jump in any available life raft. The conference they left, was not the same one that BC, Miami and Va Tech left. You're argument is ridiculous and naive. Your argument is so simplistic it can be summed up as "well if nothing changed, then everything would be the same".

Things change.

More than anything else, coaching matters. Look at Florida before, during, and after Urban Meyer. Every school Nick Saban has coached at. Michigan. Ohio State. Louisville. USC. Texas. Tennessee. Georgia. etc etc. Coaching, and everything associated it with it from filling out a staff and recruiting, matters the most, especially when comparing P5 programs and their level of financial support from conference affiliation.
