I'm going to present in the form of questions, and will post the answers sometime Monday. This is a one-time result of some research I was doing on the BCS / Power Conferences. I thought some of you might enjoy the info, but might like to think about it first.

All questions refer ONLY to the 74 Head WBB coaches in the BCS conferences. So there was not an "odd" statistic, I considered Charlie Turner Thorne to be the HC of ASU, although she is on sabatical.

1 - How many of the 74 schools have alums as the HC? Any names?

2 - There are 2 UConn alums that are head coaches in the power conferences. Who?

3 - What school has the most alums coaching in these conferences? How many?

4 - What conference has the most male coaches (percentage)? The fewest? Incidently, there are 25 men and 49 women head coaches total.

5 - What conference has the most coaches working their first WBB Division 1 head coaching job (percentage)? In all, 34 of the 74 coaches are working their 1st WBB D1 HC job, which I found surprising. The answer to the question is even more surprising!

6 - Bonus - Who is the oldest (age) HC in these conferences?

1. Difficult question. The only one who comes to mind, right now, is Teresa Wetherspoon at Louisisana Tech.
2. Jamelle Elliott at Cincinnati and Tonya Cardoza at Temple.
3. Penn State? 3?
4. Big East, ACC
5. Big East
6. Harry Perretta

#2 must be a trick question. I'll bet it's a male coach in addition to Jamelle.

I don't know that it is a "trick", but you are correct, the other UConn grad is male. Likewise, not all the alums coaching at their alma mater are female.

Incidently, a few of you are straying out of conferences - all involved coach in the Big East, Big 10, Big 12, ACC, SEC or Pac12 - the 6 "power" conferences with automatic BCS bids.

Answers:

1 - I was surprised to learn that there are 8 Women's Basketball Coaches that are at their alma mater: Doug Bruno (DePaul), Sharon Versyp & Linda Lappe as noted above, Wendell Hudson (Alabama), Amanda Butler (Florida), Renee Ladner (Mississippi), Itoro Coleman (Clemson) and Scott Rueck (Oregon State).

2 - Jamelle was the obvious one; Dennis Wolf at VaTech would be the other UConn alum.

3 - Tennessee has 3 alum head coaches - Nikki Caldwell ('94, LSU), Kelly Harper ('99, NC State) and Niya Butts ('00, Arizona). A couple of other schools have 2, but a lot of odd schools represented.

4 - VAU has it - Big East 50% male (8/8); ACC only 2 of 12 HC are male. Interesting that I did this same study a few years ago and several conferences were male dominated.

5- VAU again with the Big East. Only 4 with prior HC experience: CVS, Agnus Bernatto, Anne Donovan and Muffett McGraw.

6 - The oldest coach, no question, is Paul Westhead at Oregon. Phooey on suggesting Harry - he's my age (mid 50's). Vivian and Doug Bruno are older just in the BE, and Muffett may be.

Doug Bruno should have come to mind immediately. He actually played for Ray Meyer.
