4th and shorts from midfield

For the love of God with this defense why do they punt on 4th and 1 from midfield multiple times.

What happened to show confidence in the team blah blah blah?

The way the offense played today, even getting to a 4th and short had to be considered a major victory.

What happened to show confidence in the team blah blah blah?

They did it BECAUSE of the defense. Coach P knows the other team is going 3-and-out, and he'll get the ball back in good field position. They had pretty good field position all day, really. But you can't turn the ball over 4 times and go 3-and-out every other time either...

I guess one could make that argument, but with this offense 4th and 1 is a decent possession compared to other opportunities - I hate punting with the wind they generally end up in the endzone - the fact that one almost didn't isn't exactly a good sign.
