Saw this movie. I thought it sucked. The dialogue was just a continuous cliche, the acting was over the top. Harrison Ford should have sued to stop the film from being released, because he was particularly awful. He looked like he was doing a Saturday Night Live spoof of someone else's version of Branch Rickey.

Soul of the Game was an HBO TV movie that covered exactly the same ground, and was much, much better.

Anytime you have the opportunity to remake a movie originally starring Delroy Lindo, Blair Underwood, and Edward Hermann, you have to do it.

I haven't seen all of 42 yet. I was interrupted in the middle of it, but I can't disagree so far.
