I have not followed UNC closely but how do they have 8 losses in conference play?
They made shots today they normally have not made this season. And NC State missed a bunch of shots they normally make.

UNC knocks off NC State. The Polls tomorrow will certainly be interesting. Should South Carolina be the # 1 team in the Country now?

Whoa!! Prop to the two people that picked UNC!! Wow. Did not see this one coming. Huge upset. NC State coming off a win against Louisville and to take the L against a rival. Wow.

I guess SC is #1 now, which is not what any of us fans want heading into tomorrow night.

This probably takes NC State off the 1-seed line, although I wouldn’t be surprised if they find their way back. In my opinion, there are 4-5 teams better than NC State at most.

I didnt see the game.. just got back into town a few minutes ago... but I had a bad feeling about this game for State all week long. Its a double rivalry game.. Its a Land Grant vs the Flagship.. in addition the school are about 25 miles apart, so its a neighborhood rivalry as well. It had upset written all over it.

@triaddukefan said this game would be tough for NC State.

One of these days... the BY is gonna listen to me .. I wrote in another thread

Remember this. Two years ago... State started 21-0... and went to Chapel Hill and got beat. Last year they started 14-0... played CH... and got beat. Their opponent on Sunday..... you guessed it. Throw out the record books when its Flagship vs Land Grant..... especially when those schools are in the same neighborhood.

I've thought this for weeks. ACC is a bit overrated because it thins dramatically after Louisville and NC State. Whichever of Huskies or Gamecocks wins clearly deserves to be no. 1, IMHO.

^ This last paragraph is why I’ve been down on NC State all season, even though they’ve unquestionably gotten some more impressive wins than in past seasons. But they tend to falter n’ collapse around this time each year. If this team can get to the ACC tourney without another loss, I’ll believe they are for real.

They have 8 losses in conference because they are not a good team and Bailey is highly overrated

FINAL: UNC beats NC State for the third year in a row, and 2nd time in a row at Carmichael, 76-69. Season-high 11 made THREEs for UNC and poor shot selection and questionable play calls by the Wolfpack doomed NC State today.

UNC had tremendous balance today. Alyssa Utsby with 20 points, Holeshinska with 15, Watts with 17.
NC State was led by Cunane with 14 and Kayla Jones with 13, who also had 10 rebounds. I don't know how many layups we missed...but it had to be at least 10.

Doesn't make any sense. Beat two #1s...then lose to a team that just looked gosh awful Thursday night against FSU.

I just don't understand what NC State was doing at times today...and that's all I'm going to say about that.

We'll see what happens when these two teams meet again in a couple of weeks.

L’ville and NC St are overrated and closer to the rest of the pack than their respective records indicate. Fl St is way down and the rest of the conference is improved but still not all that good including Syracuse. The top tier teams have declined and the lower to mid have improved.
Improved teams: Ga Tech, Wake Forest, ND, Pitt, Clemson, Syracuse
Teams not as good as last year: NC St, L’ville, Fl St, BC

L’ville and NC St are overrated. Fl St is down and most of the rest of the conference is improved but still not good including Syracuse. It’s a mediocre conference like a lot of WBB this year.
I do think the night-in, night-out grind of the ACC is still formidable. A lot of solid teams or up-and-comers like UNC, ‘Cuse, G. Tech. But I would be absolutely shocked if this conference produces the national champion.

Which would be the least shocking conference to win a championship?

I wouldn’t be shocked by any conference winning the championship(probably your point.) I have not been impressed this year and nobody really jumps out at me as the top overall team. It really just depends on who wants it more.

Well, certainly if we got a winner outside the P5 + Big East, I’d be surprised.

In order of likeliness, I guess I’d go:

SEC (S. Carolina, A&M)
Big East (Conn)
PAC-12 (Stanford)
ACC (NC St., Lou)
Big Ten (Michigan, Maryland)
Big 12 (Baylor)

I see the title going to either Connecticut or South Carolina this year. But that’s just my opinion, and I could be wrong.

Actually...we aren't talking about the strength of the conference...but the top team.

That’s fair. The conversation devolved a bit towards holistic conference strength because that’s historically been a decent indicator of a team’s end-of-season readiness (In past years, Stanford and Maryland had tough starts, but both looked great by season’s end. There have been a few posters who ascribed UConn’s 2017 and 2018 FF losses to the weak AAC as well).

But to the original point: this year is as wide open as we’ve seen in some time. I do think the national champion pool has to be, in rough order of likelihood

SC/UConn (splitting hairs — tonight will tell!)
Stanford
NC State
Louisville
Texas A&M
Maryland
Baylor

It’s hard to envision anyone else getting to the end. But hey, that’s why we play the games!

Because just like about three-fourths of that overrated conference, they're capable of springing a good game but only about once every month or two.

Are we talking about men's basketball or women's basketball?

I deleted...got confused about which thread I was on....since women's basketball not much of a topic down in Florida....

And I am easily confused.
