I really appreciate all of the insiders who are able to keep us UCONN fanatics apprised on the latest recruiting updates, but I needed a break from all the recruiting threads talking about hopeful Huskies.

Sterling Gibbs made a significant jump in 3 pt % from his 1st to 2nd year at Seton Hall (was 43.6% in 2014-2015). He's about 40% for his career. If he can continue to improve, he could compete with Ray.

Highest 3-Point FG% 3FG-FGA Years

44.8% Ray Allen (233-520) 1994-96
42.3% Ben Gordon (246-581) 2002-04
41.1% Albert Mouring (177-430) 1998-01
41.0% Brian Fair (194-473) 1992-95
40.6% Phil Gamble (141-347) 1986-89

Pretty exciting to think we have a guard who could be in this company listed above. Not to mention additional 3 pt shooting from Hamilton, Purvis, Adams and Calhoun. I won't be all that disappointed when the summer ends this year, that's for sure.

I have no doubt that 3 point shooting will be much improved next season.

However, given that Sterling will only be a Husky for a year, 3 pt. % over one year would seem to be a more suitable benchmark.

48.3% Niels Giffey 2013-14
Agreed. Niels was fun to watch and I'm so glad he turned out to be a critical piece of a Championship.

Easily my favorite part of that season (besides our back court clowning everyone from the S16 onward) was watching Boat or Bazz drive, see Neils open in the corner, know the kickout is coming, "Here it comes...." there goes the pass, and NIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLS as he put the shot up.

amazed not to see Rashad Anderson on that short list. at least at one point I think he had the record for most three's made.

Rashad has record for most 3s made, but he took over 700. % still good but not top 5. Definitely thought of as one of the 3 pt greats.

Rashad made so many clutch threes over his four years. Thats why I really dont care about his percentage. Giffey was on fire from three in 2013-2014. I remember he started the season making his first 10 out of 12 or something crazy like that. The three point shot is such a weapon in college basketball. If you have guys on your team that can make them, you will be in good shape and you will be in a lot of games. Thats one reason im optimistic about Gibbs and our potential for next season.

Iv said it on Twitter and I'll say it here!,I think our "shooters" Calhoun and Cassel have better years then last hitting from 3.

Our last title we had 3 guys that could really knock it down that we were fairly confident of, Giffey, Bazz, Daniels, and on top of that Boat was good in crunch 3's. This year we have Gibbs so far. Rodney is almost there and Hamilton needs to improve. Wild cards, Adams and Calhoun. Maybe we have other skills that will be better but right now our 3's are still a bit in question for the upcoming year as I see it, but it could very well be a strong point.

Hamilton shot .343 from three as a Freshman (Daniels shot .240 as a Freshman, Shabazz shot .326 as a Freshman). Daniels shot .417 in championship year and Shabazz shot .405. Those combined with Niels made us nasty. My point in replying though is simply to say that Hamilton is pretty damn good from three.

I don't think I'd call .343 "pretty damn good." It's exactly the national average from last season.

I expect Hamilton to improve from 3.

Hopefully we improve on our FTs this year....yes DHAM I'm talking about you.

Bruce - I hear you, in comparison to the National average last season. But let me ask you this.....Did you think Rip was "pretty damn good" from 3 in our '99 championship run? What about Kemba in his final year? 34% and 33% respectively. For a Freshman 2/3 on a team with minimal low post scoring presence to free up the perimeter, I would call it "pretty damn good".

good point....given the context and situation you described, Hamilton's 3pt % should be looked at as pretty darn good

Having a shooter like Gibbs drawing attention could make for open looks and easier attempts for our other guards. We will never have a time when at least 2 guards are capable, plus Hamilton, unlike last year.
