UConn's 3 pt shooting defense was horrible for the first third of the season but has been trending better. They're currently around 290th in 3 pt FG % defense but considering it was around 350th, it's a big improvment.

More importantly, UConn is in the top 50 for 3 pt FG made per game defense.

And, most importantly, UConn shoots 3 pt FG's a smidge better than their opponents, and makes way more 3's per game than their opponents.

Funny about that. It happens once or twice it's lucky, at this point, it's more than a trend. As George Peppard was wont to say at the end of every A Team episode, "I love it when a plan comes together" For the UConn opponents in the NCAA, "I pity the fools"

We are playing better at the right time of the season.
Yes, we play Thursday 9:30pm and on a 3-0 win streak in BET games vs likely a tired Villanova team that plays 9pm the prior night.

And when we get our bracket announced, who wants to play the 2x defending champs on a 12-0 NCAA tourney roll?!?!?

Tired is way overrated, says Kemba Walker.

Yep, and while some of that high % 3pt shooting vs. us may be due to "meh" defense, a lot of it was just "all you can do is laugh" flukey variance BS.

Case in point, Garwey Dual: In the 2 games vs. us, he was 4/4 from 3pt range. Guess what he shot the rest of the year? 6/34 (17.6%). He's a guy you scheme defensively to force to take 3pt shots and you're happy as a pig in poop when he does. Somehow, though, he hits the 3pt lottery vs. us. He literally almost got half of his season total 3's in the 2 games vs. us. Ludicrous stuff.

Getting that 1st number higher than a smidge will be a key to beating the good teams. And there's two ways to accomplish it!

By the way, since Garwey going 4/4 annoys me so much, I went and calculated the odds of a 20% 3pt shooter hitting 4 straight 3pt shots. Its 0.16%. Screw him.

Did you know that you presented 3 points about our 3 point defense? Nice symmetry on that post. :)

350th to 290th, still yikes!

Well, if UConn can shoot the same percentage on a higher volume (which they currently do), it's a net positive. UConn is a better 2-pt shooting team than its opponents and is only -1.5 ppg at the FT line.

Does anyone remember Clint Frazier?

The Yankees took him in a major trade in 2016 or 2017 and he suffered a concussion in late February 2018 in Spring training and was never the same. He had major symptoms that year and again after another concussion in 2020. He said he'd be driving and trying to figure out how he got somewhere, for example and his hitting tailed off in a major way too.

Concussions affect fine motor skills and, as I've said before, I believe AK's shooting was affected in a major way by the after effects of the concussion.

It's been two or three months since he suffered his concussion and may just be coming back into form. That would go a long way towards a major improvement in UConn's three point shooting.

Yes, and on the women's side, Caroline Ducharme took a year off. Concussions are no joke.

But that is great cover for AK and his scoring slump (still recovering from latent effects of the concussion) and I do expect him to enter the NBA draft and get picked up mid to late 2nd round.
