That's the players by years of eligibility remaining.

One year (3) -- Azzi, CD, Serah
Two years (3) -- KK, Shade, Ice
Three years (5) -- Sarah, Cheli, Allie, Jana, Patterson
Four years (3) -- Kelis, Blanca, Gandy

so 4 open scholarships for 2026 frosh or transfers

Geno has been carrying a larger squad than many other top teams, making things very tight at transfer time. (If Deberry and Bettencourt hadnt transferred, would UConn have had room for Strong & Chen?) I wonder if he goes a little lighter this year?

We need a point guard. So if Heckel doesn’t sign Bettencourt would be a huge help once again this year. With the way the portal works now will we have extra spots available after next season ends. For sure we have three. Any three of these four would be great. Vukosa, Harpring, Robinson and Bjorn.

I think in this new era of “transfer Portal” teams need to start pushing players to the portal after two years or so if the player just doesn’t pan out, or doesn’t provide any value. This way teams can insure spots for bringing in transfers. Technically, scholarships are not for four years, but renewable yearly.

So much for loyalty. So if a kid you recruited plays their butt off, but just doesn’t get it to the point you’re happy with you forced them out how would that look to incoming recruits? It would be kind of sketchy for them coming to UCONN if Geno started doing that.

Ok, ok, I get the hint, LOL. I'll post the updated roster. ;)

When teams do what is suggested they no longer have loyalty and the players don't play for the name on the front. Lots of teams do that whether they need to or not but UConn always has the best roster and simply doesn't need to play that game. If they start doing it then they will cease to be a legendary program in my opinion.

You want to collect NIL money like a pro then you should have to perform like a pro. Welcome to the real world. If you don’t produce at your job then you are asked to leave.

so, making $ and winning are what trumps everything. thank god i and many others do not agree. i wish there were more like us. the world would be much more pleasant.
Yes, you are correct, winning and making $$$$$ trumps everything.

I think one of the main attributes Geno looks for in a recruit is "Does she want an education in addition to playing basketball?" If the answer to this is yes it puts her on the right track for Uconn. It also adds a layer of dedication.

Geno has said in the past that he looks for players that care about winning. He has said that he goes to these AAU tournaments where the kids play 4+ games in a weekend and some kids don’t care if the team wins or not. Geno looks for kids who want to win and are competitive and want to compete.

In my opinion any coach that reneges on a scholarship commitment without having an excellent reason, not just disappointing performance, is a piece of poop. Remember they are recruiting KIDS, not pros.

A scholarship is for 1 year and can be renewed yearly. Technically the coach would not be reneging on the scholarship, he just wouldn’t opt to renew it. In college football it’s done all the time.

Did anyone else think this thread was about someone's confusion over haiku structure?

I actually did think something like that when I first glanced at the thread title. Maybe it was going to be a challenge to compare this season to a haiku, or maybe it even announced a contest to write haikus. But then I remembered that haiku is the wrong form for describing the season. It was much more epic. :D:eek:

I think the landscape is changing. With the nil money in college atheletic's it is now much like professional sports. Paid to play is professional.

Do you really think we need a point guard and, if you really believe so, that Bettencourt is an upgrade over KK or Kelis Fisher? When Bettencourt was at UConn she could not beat out KK for minutes and that was two years ago. KK is much better now and way more experienced, so Bettencourt would be a down grade IMO.

KK is great at what she does, Kelis is an unknown, and however talented, needs a year in the system and even if Heckel commits, none of those is looked at as a PG experienced and talented and with enough BBIQ to direct the UConn 2025-2026 offense and make up for some or most of the Paige points. That said, KK has earned the start and I expect Geno to change the team from a guard oriented system to more of a wing/point system with the addition of Serah, Blanca and possibly the resurgence of Ayanna and Carolyn.

I'm holding out for Autumn C.
