Here’s my 2 cents…The issue with BE for UConn purposes isn’t necessarily the quality of the other teams in the league it’s lack of TV revenue BE 7 million per year per team, ACC 17 million PYPT, Big 12 34 Million PYPT , SEC 53 Million PYPT , Big 10 73 Million PYPTThe Big East talk is ridiculous. The league was rated higher THIS YEAR than the ACC in several metrics. It’s true the league has been down for just two years relative to the top three leagues.
The problem has been the middle. The bottom third of the league this year was better than the bottom third of every league in America. Every team finished in the top 100 in most metrics.
Four programs were down last year in the middle and that hurt the league: Marquette, Creighton, Xavier, and Providence. Early returns in the portal suggest all four will be much better.
If the leagues gets 5-6 bids this year (which I expect), a lot of people are going to look moronic.
The ACC is the league with much scarier future. Once UNC leaves, it will be the clear #5 league. I want to join for football purposes, but the complaining when we are in the ACC will be even worse.
The BE is a sinking ship, so until I see otherwise, I'll believe it's continuing on it's sinking pattern. There are 4 teams that feel like they're trying right now, UConn, StJ, Nova and PC.Here’s my 2 cents…The issue with BE for UConn purposes isn’t necessarily the quality of the other teams in the league it’s lack of TV revenue BE 7 million per year per team, ACC 17 million PYPT, Big 12 34 Million PYPT , SEC 53 Million PYPT , Big 10 73 Million PYPT
Lack of Football conference which impacts n the TV revenue
Poor officiating which works against UConn style of play…
I grew up watching the Big East when it was great and the powers were the Cuse G Town, St John’s etc…over time UConn took over , left for football came back but no football and a lot less money
Given what is happening with transfer portal and professional nature of College Football and Basketball UConn needs to find a conference that gives back on all these fronts, not be the school that carries a financially disadvantaged conference with our brand that at same time forces us to remain Independent in Football
I laid it all out already. What are you talking about. Those games are what gave us a 2 seed.. They went to our WAB which was the primary metric the committee used.
In that scenario (assuming it’s an equivalently challenging out of conference as what we saw last year) in addition to UConn’s brand recognition in men’s basketball, I think we end up with the 2 seed.I laid it all out already.
Prior to the tournament, Lunardi and others had us as a 2 seed even WITH a win against Marquette in the last reg. season game & a tournament championship, even with a Florida loss. So not only did UConn beat them head-to-head, had a better record, etc., it wouldn't have mattered based on the metrics and the drag of the BE.
It seems unreasonable to expect UConn to go 6-1 OOC against top ranked teams year after year.
Instead, it's far more likely that they go 4-3 and end up in St. John's predicament. 2 losses in the BE, winning the BET, a regular season championship too, and yet a 5 seed.
Losses OOC hurt you much more badly than wins help you.
We had a great brand in '23. Finished the season ranked 10th and were given the 14th seed (4 seed). In that scenario (assuming it’s an equivalently challenging out of conference as what we saw last year) in addition to UConn’s brand recognition in men’s basketball, I think we end up with the 2 seed.

Our brand recognition now is a lot different than in 2023.We had a great brand in '23. Finished the season ranked 10th and were given the 14th seed (4 seed).
Is this code for we will be playing Duke at MSG?Big east has zero aura left. It’s UConn and StJs.
Nova may make some moves, PC has money and a coach and could be interesting to us given the very local rivalry.
The rest of the league is utterly boring.
Bottom 2/3 of league will always be an afterthought going forward. Shaka will Shaka - his template doesn’t work. Creighton without McDermott and the last of his guard kinda borning. Cooley stinks.

Would love a yearly TD game at Storrs North. My pick is Arkansas, Cal loves having random games in the northeast, this one would actually make sense.
Understood. I don't expect to beat Florida, Kansas, Illinois, BYU, Texas and Arizona each and every year though. That was the premise. So basically the strength of our OOC let us stay on the 2 line even with a horrible league loss to Marquette.
The Big East isn't going to provide opportunities for big wins - there's no way if St Johns had just played cupcakes instead of Bama, Auburn, Kentucky and Arkansas they would have gotten a better seed anyway.
This all without even considering it makes for a much more enjoyable season playing big programs as opposed to Maryland Easter shores ten times.
