26/27 season schedule

Hope so, I don’t ever recall the big east being this poor. Willard had a lot of work ahead of him. Not sure if they don’t pay or just can’t stand playing for the guy but the whole team is in the portal
Nova is well resourced. Money is not an issue there.

here is what I think we can and should end up with

Beyond @arizona, N-Illinois and kansas

I think Hurley wants to go monsterous with the schedule everyone on here knows he said 7 or 8, I think he’ll do that

Duke at MSG/ I think it is mutually beneficial to both schools (Jon scheyer can look at the team he may face in March) and John Fanta told me in late 2024 they are working on a series. Could return this game to Greensboro.

@UNC Mike Malone coaching there as a new coach would be great for him to bring in the national runner up as a big home game and would give us a great 27/28 home game

Chat GPT reported this previously as a rumor

Gonzaga in Seattle- Jaylin Stewart homecoming as a senior, return to MSG in 27/28 (or Boston like they did in 07/08

Virginia in DC- the scene of the greatest shot (difficulty and stakes combined) with an on the rise Virginia team

Also a homecoming idea for Jayden Ross as a senior

If there is an 8th

Options

Michigan at MSG (jimmy v)
Kentucky at MSG (jimmy v)
Continuation of the Texas series game 3 being in CT
UCLA in Vegas

Thoughts?

With the NCAA going to 32 regular season games, we will have 12 non-conference games.

I agree with Hurley that I would like to see 7-8 high majors.

If we go with eight, we have four low-majors to schedule.

My bet is that we land on seven.

So far:

Arizona (A)
Illinois (Chicago)
Texas (A)
Kansas (H)

That means three more:

These are long shots but I would like to see a home and home with either Duke or Michigan.

I would take a game at MSG against Syracuse.

Then one other notable program home and home (someone like Wisconsin).

Already over my depression. On to next year…
Luke mentioned wanting to "mend fences" now that he's heading to BC. If we schedule them, we need to make sure they count as one of the low majors

He said today he wont schedule Luke. Its like him scheduling his brother.
Guess we can ignore my previous post then, lol.

I thought he might throw him a bone to help him out, at least in year 1

No more Gonzaga please..at least for a while. I don’t think it’s a draw that excites our fan base (at least for me) as much as it excites their fan base.

I like the idea of a home (Gampel) and home (Pauley) with UCLA, UNC (think regular season versus Duke waters down our history with them) in addition to the primetime slot at Jimmy V. UCLA is not a program that we have a tremendous history with but one that will be a premier matchup of blue bloods that will excite both fan bases and garner national attention.

Zags = pointless

No reason to further acquaint ourselves with a mid major that will inevitably go down the MM touilette'. Few's sauce has been euros and old dudes. The euro pipeline is now well discovered and old guys not an option. I'd be surprised if they are much more than a round of 32 team anymore.

Teams we need to schedule are many of the programs we had last year. Florida, Duke, Illinois, Michigan, Zona, Kansas, UNC, Kentucky, Texas, BYU, Houston, Arkansas, Indiana, Louisville.

There is going to be a squeeze.

.-.
We know a bunch of it already, right? Illinois, Kansas, Texas, AZ? All likely top 15 type teams, if not higher.
Texas series is done isn’t it? We played at their place 2 years ago. One of that teams better games after the shit kicking in Maui

Probably right. I mean, who could be on that schedule that would blow us away if it's not:

Duke
UNC
UK
Houston
Michigan
Mich St?

If this is going to blow us away, have to think it's

Would love a yearly TD game at Storrs North. My pick is Arkansas, Cal loves having random games in the northeast, this one would actually make sense.
Cal would be awesome.

I get a feeling Dusty and Izzo may be on the slate - Hurley loves Izzo and Hurley and Dusty rubbed heads. In fact I’m a guaranteed at least one is on, if not both. Call it a hunch.

It would also be smart to play Duke since the tourney game.

Hurley did say he wants to play in Boston every year. And the game was very well attended. I think they'll make it happen again.
BC? Makes all the sense in the world to play a game there - 85 miles from campus, alumni, no CBB presence.

Hurley said there's no way he's playing Luke Murray. Said he's like a brother to him. I guess you didn't watch the Dan Patrick Show interview. Here's the clip where he said that.

Perhaps the ideal 12 game non-conference would include 2 games against each 'power conference' plus 4 buy-games.

1. Kansas (H)
2. Arizona (A)
3. Illinois (N)

4. Duke
5. Michigan/Purdue/Michigan State/UCLA/Iowa
6. UNC/Virginia/Louisville/Miami
7. Alabama/Florida/Arkansas
8. Tennessee/Kentucky/Vanderbilt

Listening to Hurley press conference yesterday and it’s clear he sees what we all see that the Big East is no longer an adequate partner for UConn…
1. He referred to how much better we plat OOC due to officiating in Big East
2. Referred to lack of revenue from Big East conference TV deal compared to other conferences
3. Talked about UConn TV ratings being some of the highest in CBB ie UConn carries a brand well beyond the conference.

On a personal note I’m in Paris visiting my daughter whose lived here for 5 years… last night I was in a bar watching PSG vs Liverpool Champions league quarters, and wearing my Huskies hat..I had 2 people approach me and ask about the shot by Braylon and one other talk to me about Stephon Castle as ex UConn player, obvious Wemby connection but still knew he went to UConn….that is microcosm of the reach of our brand…time to move on to ACC , SEC or Big 12, football is ready, let’s go !

I like all your ideas, and notice you have 3 ACC teams which is conference I think we should end up in for BBall and Football and all the revenue that could bring and the annual Blue Blood B Ball matchups…I love UCLA and Cronin and Hurley seem to be tight, Michigan at MSG would be be awesome!

I would only question Gonzaga though as I think they are in for a real down turn

We do have kind of an interesting history of running back high-profile Tournament tilts in the OOC, and vice versa.

For me that's enough top tier teams.

UConn is getting dinged for its BE schedule and the refrain this year was that the early games don't count because they were early.

So, these games can only hurt you if you lose 2 or 3 like St John's did. That caps your ranking to 15 even if you go perfect in the conference.

And you end up with a 5 seed.
What are you talking about. Those games are what gave us a 2 seed.. They went to our WAB which was the primary metric the committee used.

Who would’ve thought that leaving the big east was a serious consideration 10 years ago? But in my humble opinion, it is today. The big east is hurting us. All I’m saying is that it has to be a consideration going forward.

I enjoyed the series we had going with UNC. I wouldn't mind doing the same with Purdue.
