With the NCAA going to 32 regular season games, we will have 12 non-conference games.

I agree with Hurley that I would like to see 7-8 high majors.

If we go with eight, we have four low-majors to schedule.

My bet is that we land on seven.

So far:

Arizona (A)
Illinois (Chicago)
Texas (A)
Kansas (H)

That means three more:

These are long shots but I would like to see a home and home with either Duke or Michigan.

I would take a game at MSG against Syracuse.

Then one other notable program home and home (someone like Wisconsin).

Already over my depression. On to next year…

For me that's enough top tier teams.

UConn is getting dinged for its BE schedule and the refrain this year was that the early games don't count because they were early.

So, these games can only hurt you if you lose 2 or 3 like St John's did. That caps your ranking to 15 even if you go perfect in the conference.

And you end up with a 5 seed.

I generally agree with this. I’d say early wins count but they count less as they get further into the rear view. Basically recency bias.

I would love to see a non-conference “big game” in late January /February like Michigan and Duke played. Doubt it happens but it would be good. I also wonder if we might try to add a couple of better mid-majors as opposed to East Texas A&M, Bryant, New Haven types. Play Bryant and Columbia maybe but add a Dayton or South Florida or something.

The Big East will be better next year.

St. John’s will probably be a top 20 tournament team.

Willard will figure out a way to make the tournament again.

Marquette and Creighton will both be better.

Providence will be a lot better.

Xavier will likely be improved.

The only teams I think will be objectively worse are Butler and Seton Hall.

My bet is five get in: UConn, St. John’s, Nova, Providence and one or both of Creighton and Marquette.

Danny and Dusty seemed to have a rapport so maybe we can get Michigan on the schedule.

@RuffRuff can you work on that, please?

Text sent. Meh with the B10, would rather play some conferences that we think may one day decide to invite us in. Duke would be amazing, UNC and Malone could be fun. Getting Sampson back on the schedule could be good to have. Getting Calipari back on the calendar could be fun too.

I told got over this year's loss far quicker than years past. It's great to have consistency and fight in our teams again.

Little premature don’t you think?

Illinois ( neutral 😉 in chicago) , arizona (a) and kansas (h) are set . the february thing will become popular immediately. i can see espn or fox putting together a one off uconn / duke at a neutral site ( with dukes following even msg is sort of neutral). that would leave 4 revenue home games vs quad 3/4 and 4 other games … home and home with decent mid major (so the road game a quad 1) . i would love cuse at msg and a florida and texas school away … i e miami and tcu

I don’t understand your logic at all. The reason the Committee ranked us 6th in the country was precisely beside of what we accomplished in the early games. Where does “early games don’t count” come from? Because you care what people who don’t know anything tweet?

We had a better record than Florida and beat them head to head. Should've been seeded ahead of them.

But beyond that, you can't expect to beat 5 or 6 of these teams each year and lose 0 or 1 games. You'll get dinged badly, then 2 or 3 losses in the BE, and you're the 5 seed facing a 4. You won't get the same deference they give to P4 teams with losses.

Lunardi, I guess, doesn't know anything, but I happened to notice that Lunardi was dead on as he was assessing UConn, and he said we would NOT have gotten a 1 seed if we won the BE. I think he's right.

Keep in mind that MSG is hosting the East Regional next year. I forget what the cutoff is but I don’t think we see many MSG games next year.
I think we can do 1 Neutral not counting BET. I don’t see us not doing that if that’s the case.

Hopefully they do neutral MSG on a sat in December, those are the best. Would be throwing cuse a bone at this point playing them but it would still be a blast.

Actually I take that back. Don’t give cuse their first game at the garden in 5 years under a new coach against UConn. That’ll be their Super Bowl and we’ll have another St. John’s situation in the garden

UConn-Duke in NYC in February would be an unbelievable draw.

Or bring it back to DC, returning to the scene of the crime.
Don’t get me wrong. I would love that, but I’d rather not tip our hand and have an out of conference game in February. Let them see us in November and December and then big east play till March madness — it’s been working perfectly for us the last four years we’re like 20 and two. Why change anything ???? No reason to give a Michigan or Duke squad a live view of our offense 3 weeks before tourney. Why mess with what’s been working
