25-26 Rotation

As Jana will back up Serah Williams at center , Ayanna and Ice will back up SS at the 4, presumably for a total of only 10-15 minutes.
I don't count on Caroline, so assume the rest of the rotation is KK,K9, Azzi, AS, MC and Blanca.

I would not necessarily assume that Jana backs up Sera, at least not at the start of the season. Jana has enormous potential and she’s going to compete for a starting spot. That will bring out the best in both Jana & Serah. I can also envision a scenario where Geno decides to go BIG at times, playing both Jana & Serah at the same time.

At the end of the day, UConn’s entire roster will engage in a fierce competition for starting spots and PT, which should send chills through every opponent UConn plays.

Geno will as he always does, will provide minutes to whoever he feels best meets the needs of the team as the match ups dictate. Certainly, a big plus but few have commented on the great benefits such a deep team give him in practice. Many pluses that will show up in both game performance and player development.
Yep, this.

While I understand the caution in planning for meaningful minutes from Caroline, I would just say that people do recover from even debilitating injuries. I too am cautious in terms of expectations (of any kind, really) but I think we would do well to remember that this is a player who, three years ago, most of us thought would be an all american during her time here. Again, perhaps it won’t happen but if…if she can recover to the point where she can play without doubt or fear of reoccurrence, there is really no reason she can’t be a major contributor next year. There are few things I would rather see!

I can envision Jana and Serah on the court together as well. I think Serah would be quite good at the 4 part of the time. The big concept could go even further with Sarah at the 3 which she could be terrific at as well.

That lineup probably depends on three things. First Jana would need to become the obvious third best big behind Sarah and Serah, in other words better than Ice, Ayanna, or Gandy. The odds of using Sarah at the three are greater if our other candidates there have fallen short of expectations or because of injury. And finally, Geno has to decide going big is appropriate for the specific game situation.

If Jana really busts out in her second year and Blanca struggled as a freshmen we could see the "super big" lineup more often, but if Blanca looks like a star from the git go, I wouldn't expect it much.

Having a very talented third unit raises the upside a fair amount, but I think the main benefit is raising the floor on the downside. We can cover injuries and/or players that disappoint compared to expectations, and unless there are major disappointments, retain the ability to play big or small, fast or slow, and insert shooters, passers, rebounders or defenders as needed.

The practices will be even more intense. Everyone will be pushing everyone else. Everyone trying to get PT. As we said before, you improve in practice and by practicing. I have my fingers crossed. This could be a truly great team and a heck of a lot of fun to watch.

What would make the Jana -Serah combination really lethal would be Jana developing a proven shot from the foul line. That way her player can't slough off. At 6'5" and able to see over defenders, Jana has proven she can be a good interior passer and I see plenty of lobs to Serah who seals better than anyone I have seen in a long time. That is also a perfect role for Ice also who can hit the 15 footer with regularity and also can pass. We also all know Sarah is a great interior passer. There are just too many possibilities and I agree that nothing is a given. A really great summer for Jana, replete with moves, footwork, strength and conditioning may make all of us forget last year's fits and starts. We know she can be great because we saw it when the team needed it most, at SC and against UCLA.

True, but Jana has yet to develop a proven shot from anywhere, so we'll see

But if you looked at the videos before she came to Uconn she (jana) could shoot from the outside. She could also drive the ball to the basket. What is needed is good conditioning and I'm sure Hudy will work with her on that, and more strength. Watch out for Jana next year!

For 2 years I have watched Jana knock down 15-20’ shots consistently during warmups. It’s all in her head. Once she can convince herself that she can make those shots in a game, it’s all over for UConn’s opponents.

UConn won't be subbing position for position all the time. We will see centers subbing out for guards and guards for forwards. If a pg is coming out someone still on the court may be taking over those responsibilities. In addition there are a bunch of players who fit some or all of the 2-3-4 and a couple can play the 1. The toughest job for the coaches will be weeding through all the potential combinations.
