Yup-That's why I thought @HooperScooper might want to include him in his "notables"list. Impressive targets for the Program. He’s the most recent offer. 6’-5” 200. NBA DNA.

The vast majority of schools have an interest rating of "cool" and are listed alphabetically.According to 247, none of these prospects have Uconn listed in their top 5. I would say they are not accurate lists.
Not too long ago we were happy to be in with just a couple of these guys in a cycle. Some notables:

Not sure what their algorithm is but as it comes to the interest piece I’d take as grain of salt. These things will develop over the summer and for some reason UConn doesn’t register well in these things. Based on what the staff has said in terms of moving off HS recruiting, I’m guessing they’ll start their funnel at 7-8 and then zero in on 2ish. Once they feel some reciprocity they’ll go all in and things will change quick. UConn doesn’t over publicize their recruitment like some other programs do.According to 247, none of these prospects have Uconn listed in their top 5. I would say they are not accurate lists.
Thanks. Missed that one. Don't think anyone posted that when it happened. We're slipping. Or I missed it and I'm slipping! He’s the most recent offer. 6’-5” 200. NBA DNA.

The lists on the recruiting websites are not updated well. I wouldn't pay much attention to them.According to 247, none of these prospects have Uconn listed in their top 5. I would say they are not accurate lists.
Agreed (ESPN is awful), but fans need to take the bold step of not caring where players are ranked by any of these services.either On3 or 247 has to take the bold step and remove ESPNs rankings from their combined calculations.
So we should go hit the circuit and evaluate them all ourselves? Not sure I have the time for that.Agreed (ESPN is awful), but fans need to take the bold step of not caring where players are ranked by any of these services.

No but ON3 and 247 should (as sister companies with the same founder) do their own ratings, then combine theirs for consensus. So we should go hit the circuit and evaluate them all ourselves? Not sure I have the time for that.
Are the top 10 players more likely to play as freshmen because ESPN, 247, and On3 rank them in the top 10 or because they are high quality players and it doesn't matter where On3 puts them in an ordinal list?I don't agree with this. Top-10 players are overwhelmingly more likely to be productive for you as freshman, for example.
I think where people go wrong is finding a distinct difference between the 25th and 80th ranked player. All those top-100 4* guys basically project the same. And typically almost all your McDs guys end up playing significant minutes.
I farm out my evaluating to the firm of Hurley, Young, Murray, Nardi, and Moore. Later I re-evaluate using the metrics over at the 20/20 Hindsight Company (they are always right). So we should go hit the circuit and evaluate them all ourselves? Not sure I have the time for that.
They use Rivals rankings also. I don't think ESPN's are that bad. They had Karaban higher than any of the other recruiting services. No but ON3 and 247 should (as sister companies with the same founder) do their own ratings, then combine theirs for consensus.

ESPN either overplays on "local" talent and top 10s, especially their 5* McDonald's all americans but do a disservice to foreign players, or those who upped their game from Junior to Senior years of High School. They use Rivals rankings also. These things are all directional - end of the day the top 30-40 get most of the attention, are generally “tiered”. Who’s to say what the major diff is between 8 and 12? There’s still so much development that happens after the age of 18.No but ON3 and 247 should (as sister companies with the same founder) do their own ratings, then combine theirs for consensus.

True 8-12 is not very relevant. And it does get exponentially more difficult to predict the path of those ranked 10+ as you move into the 20s, 30s, etc. So I get the tact of "hey, why try?" but ESPN does try, just doesn't try very hard. These things are all directional - end of the day the top 30-40 get most of the attention, are generally “tiered”. But how important is Toure dropping like 10 spots in the overall scheme of things? He is the same guy with the same strengths, the weaknesses, and the same potential for growth (and they are measuring based on a recent sample in which he was likely very tired and in an environment he is not necessarily comfortable in).How else is an average fan supposed to look out for high school talent other than to look on the rankings list? Some or us are interested in players before UConn offers, or even if we don't.
Did Abdou Toure not matter to folks in CT until Hurley sent the offer text?
Mullins will be interesting to watch because he does come from a point in time Hurley was indexing hard on traits that landed him Mahaney. But how important is Toure dropping like 10 spots in the overall scheme of things? It isn't about ignoring them entirely, just taking them with a grain of salt. That ESPN is asleep on a player and drives his ranking down doesn't actually matter.
In the end, how Hurley recruited Mullins told me a lot more than where any of the services placed him.

While he’s very good we cannot necessarily label Dan a god in evaluation, case in point Nowell and Abraham.
I merely suggested that fans might want to not put too much weight on the specifics of a player's ranking. If you think that there is an important difference between a specific player being ranked 18th or being ranked 24th, then you are certainly free to do so.You're moving the goalpost. 99% of this board wouldn't have known about the kid before his offer if he hadn't popped up on the top-100 lists.

What UConn was looking for changed between when they were recruited and when they showed up on campus. Nowell is likely a miss in any case by not only Hurley but also by also the rating services. It is strange.Mullins will be interesting to watch because he does come from a point in time Hurley was indexing hard on traits that landed him Mahaney.
