It's not crazy to think we'll carry 6 based on your classification of guys, Mullins and Ball will both get minutes at the 3.That gets into what we aren't allowed to discuss here, if you know what I mean. We carried 4 guards the last two years. We have 5 already next year. We aren't carrying 6.
I don't see relying on Nowell as being any worse than relying on KEA or relying on sophomore Kemba. He's been good when he has played. I'm fine relying on him and expect they view Adams as a potential Newton like PG.
Are you serious? Khalid was a top ten recruit who took over the team's leadership role during a pickup game on his official visit. He was brought in purposely to take the starting PG job from Ricky who was awful his sophomore year when given the reins. People on the boards back then might remember Rickety Moore and his "Ricky Shuffle."I don't see relying on Nowell as being any worse than relying on KEA or relying on sophomore Kemba. El-Amin averaged 16 ppg, 4 assists, 3 rebs, 2 steals as a freshman. Calhoun and all the players knew when he scrimmaged with them on his visit he was what they needed to win the national championship. He's our most special freshman of all-time IMO and entirely unique. That gets into what we aren't allowed to discuss here, if you know what I mean. We carried 4 guards the last two years. We have 5 already next year. We aren't carrying 6.

If that happens look for Belichick to take over the basketball program as well.UNC is in an interesting spot right now. If they miss the tourney this year there is going to be lots of noise in CH.
Steve will take itIf that happens look for Belichick to take over the basketball program as well.
I agree with this. Our biggest needs in the portal next year will be a big pg and a 4 to replace AlexWhy? Because it would be crazy going into the season with a kid (Mahaney) who isn't a point guard and a totally unproven point guard (Nowell) who would be basically playing his first season.
Point guard is our main need, we need a large sized proven point guard from the portal.
Let’s see who comes out - no point in even discussing it if there are no clear upgrades or fits.I agree with this. Our biggest needs in the portal next year will be a big pg and a 4 to replace Alex
The main need is at the forward spots.
Exactly. I like the little I have seen from Nowell, potential wise, but there has not been enough minutes or sample size to turn the keys over to him. We do not know what we have in Adams yet. Seems like the perfect scenario for a stop gap proven PG for next year. The main need has to be a big PG. There's no way around that. Relying on Nowell to go from 2mpg to being a starting-caliber PG on a team with championship aspirations would be insane. It's possible, but that kind of leap is unlikely. Even Hurley has talked about the PG problem.
I wouldn't assume Ball is back next year. He is shooting his way onto the NBA draft board, and 2 double-doubles in his last 3 games doesn't hurt either. I'm not saying he's going, but he is approaching that level.
I don't disagree with that, but he has worked his way onto the draft board. We will see how the rest of his season goes. Certainly would love to see him back.I would be very surprised if he leaves for the league. At least this juncture, I'm assuming he's back. Not sure he has an NBA game and he's already 21-years-old.
Agreed. Let's put it another way - this team is desperate for a second ballhandler/back up pg behind Diarra and even when he was healthy Nowell didn't exactly run with the opportunity in limited minutes. We expect him to be able to step into a starting role next year based on that?Exactly. In my initial list of starters I had "transfer' at PG with Nowell. But we won't have six guards on scholarship. Last I checked we never have back to 1999. So that leads to conversations we aren't allowed to have here, unless Ball goes pro.The main need has to be a big PG. There's no way around that. Let’s see if he can keep it up. Two games does not make an NBA prospect. If he lights it up and finds his way into the first round, have to feel great for him and adjust. Still too early. If he goes bananas and takes us on a run, win win. Hurley keeps that brand of NBA development firing.I wouldn't assume Ball is back next year. Of course we've had 6 guards before and this is such a strange way of looking at things. Hurley isn't going to sacrifice what could be a championship season by counting how many guards we have and saying we're going to hand over the point guard position to an unproven point guard (Nowell) and a non point guard (Mahaney)In my initial list of starters I had "transfer' at PG with Nowell. He's certainly gaining momentum. We'll see if he sustains it with Liam back and him getting less opportunities, though.I would be very surprised if he leaves for the league. At least this juncture, I'm assuming he's back. Not sure he has an NBA game and he's already 21-years-old.

The issue with Ball is that he doesn't have ideal size for his position, he's a SG in a PG's body and hasn't shown enough lead guard skills up to this point to predict him transitioning to that position in the pros. If he was 6'4 or 6'5" with the same plus wingspan I think it would be a no-brainer that he would declare.Thru 22 games of sophomore season:
Jordan Hawkins: 29 min, 16.3ppg, 41.5% FG%, 39.4% 3 pt %, 85.9% FT, 3.9 RPG, 1.4 APG, 16-6 record
Solo Ball: 31 min, 15.0ppg, 47.2% FG, 45.6% 3 pt %, 83% FT, 3.5 RPG, 1.4 APG, 16-6 record.
Ball first 13 games:] on left and last 9 on right
12.5ppg 18.7ppg
1.9 rpg 5.7rpg
1.2 apg 1.7apg
41.3% on 3's 50.7% on 3's
I would think that isn't 2 games
