No, that's not how much Kemba is signing for with the Hornets this summer.

That's how much the students and school have subsidized the athletic department over the past 7 years in order to "compete" in the AAC.

We would have seen similar if not higher numbers in the Big East though. It's not about conference it's about the sports. Even good football loses big money outside the P5, let alone bad football. If the goal is to get that number as low as possible, we need to get to the NCAA minimum in sports including cutting football. This is not necessarily a good idea, yet.

Are any of you under the delusion that the Big East schools make money?

Villanova had the greatest fundraising year of their little lives a couple of years ago and their subsidy was over 50% of their athletic budget.

...and to have intramurals and facilities. Funny how they don't mention the ~20% reduction in direct fees. We could very easily change this conversation by breaking out non-competitive athletics.
