23-24 Non-Conference Schedule

OK - So "WHO and WHERE" would the following "Potential" SENIOR GAMES be against and where would they be played?

Aaliyah Edwards? (In Canada? and Against Who?)

Aubrey Griffin? (In Westchester County, New York? and Against Who - Maybe Iona College?)

Nika Muhl? (Against her sister's team Ball State?)

Paige Bueckers (Against the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis/St. Paul?)

AE - Buffalo
AG - Seton Hall will have to do
Nika - Have no idea, maybe overseas exhibition

Toronto could be an option, like they did with Kia. Considering Aaliyah's profile, it could be just as big a draw, possibly bigger because she's gotten a lot more national attention in comparison to what Kia received.

I attended Kia's Senior game and it was a great event. Coach Auriemma also held a coaching clinic that week and it was well attended. TSN paid for the broadcasting rights which could be a fringe benefit for the program.

What would be interesting is where the game is played. Kia's game was at the Mattamy Centre and it was sold out. Considering the response to the WNBA pre-season game, it would be interesting to see if they could host it at the Scotiabank arena where the Raptors play and draw a larger crowd.

So Far for the 23-24 season our confirmed non-conference games include

Home: Maryland, Notre Dame

Away: Minnesota, Texas, N.C State, South Carolina

Both Asia Barnes and Courtney Banghart have confirmed discussions for a 2 game series with UNC I believe being out Mohegan game. What other teams would you like to see added. I’d choose Rhode Island, LSU and Indiana for the home schedule as well as a return to the Paradise Jam for a quality multi team event.

I don't ask for much, but Imma need yall to beat the dog crap outta Chapel Hill. That fan base needs more humbling, in my opinion.

A game against UConn in Toronto would be a great opportunity for a program that hopes to recruit Canadian players.

And there are several teams with Canadian players from the 2020 class who could be interested in partnering up to provide their graduating players a senior game closer to home. Some possible options:

Close Proximity
Louisville - Merissah Russell (Ottawa)
VCU - Sarah Te'Biasu (Montreal)
Indiana - Kiandra Browne (Montreal)

Not as close
Washington State - Jessica Clarke (Vancouver, BC)
Gonzaga - Yvonne Ejim (Calgary, Alberta)

-Tara has been ducking UConn since she abruptly discontinued the series. Have you seen Stanfords OOC schedule last couple years? I doubt she will want to take an L by the hand of Geno. It's a shame tho since this rivalry is decades old, would be great for basketball.
Tara, like Geno, likes to rotate schools in various regions. For both east and west coast teams that trip cross country mid-season is grueling. They usually try to fit in two games on the other coast on a single trip, but especially for west coast teams there are so many options on their trip east.

Wouldn't mind seeing Paige and Caitlin (like Brazil soccer, just the first names will do) hooking up again. It's possible that between these two is/are the greatest college women's player(s) of all time.

Concerning Nika, before Covid, UConn used to travel overseas preseason every other year. Is there any talk of starting that up again?

I'd like to see another game with Princeton. They're good, and they have a coach with excellent basketball pedigree.

Croatia is a beautiful country to visit as well. My nephew was there last summer and the pictures he shared were amazing.
My daughter lived in Italy for three years and visited Croatia frequently. She said it was a beautiful and friendly country and most important, very cost reasonable.

-LSU. Geno-Mulkey battles of old are fan favorites. Two great coaches preparing their teams, now at her new school. Mulkey needs a boost in her OOC scheduling so I hear.

-I think one west coast trip would be nice for next year, maybe UCLA? Play UCLA in Vegas - neutral court (I am obviously dreaming). Arizona game is for 2024-2025, so not next season is my understanding. They will be a fun add. It was nice to have UConn out west for one weekend in Portland.

If Stanford doesn't want to play against UConn, maybe Geno can schedule UNLV and then go to California and play UCLA. I know a lot of people that would buy tickets to see UConn play at the Thomas & Mack here in Vegas.:)

I was there, I agree.

Is Michigan WBB close enough for the USA - Canada connection for Aaliyah??
that would be a excellent NET game (neutral court or Ann Arbour!). A
pre- season Exhibition Game in Toronto etc. could be another option??

A very interesting option = I love the idea of a neutral court. Could be
an all-around winner! There might even been some other Canadians on
additional teams = a weekend tournament ( like in Oregon last fall??).
N.D. has a new Canadian player, but, not a senior. Why am I forgetting her name?? (Hah)

Michigan's campus in Ann Arbor is approximately 4 - 5 hours from Toronto, even further if driving from Aaliyah's hometown of Kingston. If looking at a US school for closest proximity, Syracuse would be the best bet there's a border crossing close to Kingston that makes it a short trip.

That would be Cassandra Prosper, who is from Montreal, QC.

I still believe an event in Toronto is very feasible considering they've done it once already for Kia. There's a framework that could be referenced. I'm sure Canada Basketball would love to have another event to use a way to promote the women's national team especially with the Paris Olympics coming up in 2024.

Not ever other year, roughly every 4th year.
