Vote is Wed morning.

Hoping and praying that the USSF pulls through on this. The French stand to make a fortune in construction contracts of Morocco somehow wins. This went from being a virtually lock 18 months ago to a maybe for us.

Morocco = no quality stadiums, crappy infrastructure, relative stability for region, yet -2 hrs from FIFA HQ and most of W Europe and -1 hr from Ireland, uk, Portugal. Ideally, US/MEX/CAN pull it off, but won't be totally shocked if Euro votes & FIFA influence push MOR's time zone / global TV distribution times.

FIFA has always been about the $$$$. Hopefully they maintain that greed for at least one more cycle.

There are very few things that could make FIFA abandon greed when voting on a World Cup location. Unfortunately, our President may have been one of them.

I'm not optimistic. We'll see.

FIFA will make more money in North America. Behind the scenes let’s hope FIFA’s corruption goes in our favor.

Will be televised on FS1 and BeIN sports I believe. Not sure the exact time the votes occur but I heard 6-9 am.

Don't think Trump will have much influence on the vote. Our investigation of FIFA would play a much larger negative role. However I think the combined bid (see, we all get along), the risk assessment report, along with the $$$$ should carry the day.

I think it’s hilarious that people thought Trump would lose this for us. Quit staring at your belly buttons you losers.

The FIFA people in charge now benefited from the investigation.

FWIW, "soccer" is an English term. Rooted in the word "asocciation". Also used in South Africa and Australia.

Rugby football code predates the assocation football code. Gridiron football code was started 13 years after association football in the UK set rules.

We're probably going to have open borders by 2026. And there will probably be an NFL team in Mexico by then. The Bengals seem to be a ripe candidate nowadays. The Cardinals seem set in Phoenix. The Bills will most likely move to Toronto and the Jaguars to London.

It probably doesn’t matter to USA and Mexico since the tournament is expanding anyway but are all 3 countries automatic qualifiers?

I heard yes from some sources but TBD from others.
To date, more information from non-US sources appears to suggest the latter. Imagine the thoughts of other CONCACAF nations; the US, canada, and mexico are in for 2026. One other CONCACAF fed gets an opportunity to beat NZ or whatever to potentially be the 4th CONCACAF participant. ;)

CONCACAF gets 6 spots in the 2026 World Cup (the field expands from 32 to 48 teams), so the three host countries would automatically qualify, and the rest would play for the remaining three slots.

Here’s the new qualification system including a Word Cup play-off tournament beginning 2026:
The expansion to 48 teams has been a key plank of Gianni Infantino’s policy at Fifa. It expands the number of places at the finals available to teams of every confederation, including guaranteeing that a team from Oceania will always make the cut. The new allocation of spaces is:

AFC (Asia) – eight places (up from 4.5)
Caf (Africa) – nine places (up from 5)
Concacaf (North and Central America) – six places, of which three go to hosts (up from 3.5)
Conmebol (South America) – six places (up from 4.5)
OFC (Oceania) – one place (up from 0.5)
Uefa (Europe) – 16 places (up from 13)

In addition there will be two final spots available from a new World Cup play-off mini-tournament.
The proposal is that a nation from every confederation, except Uefa, will play-off in a knockout tournament that doubles up as a test event for the host nation. The five teams will be joined by an additional country from the host nations’ confederation – Concacaf. Two seeded teams will each meet the winners of a match between two unseeded teams to determine the final places.

I assume that will have to be AFTER all the Confederations qualifications. Which means it probably can't take place the summer prior like the Confederations Cup did???

Fair point; recalled that after posting. Thanks for confirming.

Maradona doesn’t disappoint. He’s not happy about N. America getting the ‘26 World Cup:

“Mexico doesn't deserve it. The Mexicans come up against Brazil or Germany... and 'boom,' they're out." .....

"There's no passion," Maradona said. "The Canadians may be good skiers, and the Americans wanted to have four periods of 25 [minutes] for the advertising."
