Key Characteristics of Connecticut Villages
  • No Legal Status: Most villages are unincorporated communities that have no separate legal or corporate existence from the town they are in.
  • Informal Boundaries: While they may be recognized by local signage or historical markers, their "boundaries" are often fuzzy or defined only for specific purposes like zip codes, post office names, or census-designated places (CDPs).
  • Taxing and Special Districts: Some villages may have defined boundaries for limited functional purposes, such as a special taxing district, volunteer fire department, or historic district.
  • Overlap: Because they lack rigid legal borders, a village can actually span multiple towns. For example, Mystic is a village located within boh the towns of Groton and Stonington.

Growing up in Vernon, Rockville was regarded as the rough side of town. At one point the textile mills were world renowned, but that area was a dump for a long time… it’s finally been getting fixed up a bit in recent years. Bill Romonowski stopped by RHS a couple times when I was there, he had provided most of the funding for our field’s lights and I still have his signature laying around somewhere. Nobody really cared about gene Pitney bring being a trivia fact.

As the youngest of four kids I was able to claim only living in Vernon since my parents had moved out of the Rockville section of town before I was born.
But we were zoned for Rockville Little League out of Henry Park and not Vernon Luttle League. I was on the Vernon Shamrocks for youth football back when Vernon had three teams playing at Legion Field.

I played in Vernon, but Rockville consistently had more of the better players in town. Interleague play was heated, there were like 8 teams in each league. Now I believe they are down to one league in town with much fewer teams.

On one hand, I feel kinda guilty about hijacking the Spring Game thread with fishing in Vernon/Rockville. OTOH, I am enjoying the heck out of it. For some reason, the spring game on the first day of fishing season has bugged me for decades. But I don't fish and I'll be there +3.

Not a difficult solution here, get out early, catch the limit. Put the fish on ice and the only tailgate of the season that features grilled trout. Of course bacon, eggs and whatever on the side.

It used to be a town until they merged with Vernon. Relatively recently in fact that’s why it’s Rockville high school and not Vernon high school I’m thinking. But the most serious fisherman reside in the Rockville part of Vernon.
I think you guys want to go back to the AAC.
