2026 UConn Football Spring Game conflicts with Opening Day for Fishing.

You should be done fishing by 8:30 in the morning.
Back in the day I said that to a Husky Season ticket holders who fished. His answer, "Yeah, right"

Why does it always have to be on the 1st day of fishing season? You lose many potential attendees and the entire town of Rockville.
RHS grad, going to need some help understanding the Rockville joke here please…

More observation than joke. I have heard several times over the years from independent sources how much Rockvillers love their fishing. And football.

Rockville isnt a town. They are Vernoners or Vernotonians or something like that.

It used to be a town until they merged with Vernon. Relatively recently in fact that’s why it’s Rockville high school and not Vernon high school I’m thinking. But the most serious fisherman reside in the Rockville part of Vernon.

My only experience with Rockville was going to the courthouse back in my UConn days...

I go to the Football forum every day looking for something, anything related to UConn Football. All I got today are Rockville fishermen and guys who were jail bird derelicts as undergrads. I feel like one of those birds out there scratching the frozen earth for a seed or two. C'mon Spring Ball!!

Yet, all the public school kids go to Vernon Center Middle School.

When my parents first moved to CT they lived in the Rockville section of town. I was fortunate to be born after they moved to the Vernon section of town.

So, I'm not sure how this all works out, but yes, I definitely did fishing with my dad at Shenipset Lake, Walker's Reservoir, and even a bit at Valley Falls pond.

To take this to other parts of the country, the stereotype I was always told was opening day of trout season in the spring, and opening day of deer season in the fall, were no school days in Pennsylvania.

Grew up in Windsor so we played Rockville in the CVC. For some reason I was sent to Manchester Court when I was busted at UConn. Hope the weather is good for the Spring game. Still remember the game after the 2011 Men's championship. Clouds, cold, damp just terrible. Jeremy Lamb was there and he looked like he was freezing standing under the upper level.

Grew up in Rockville, lived in Vernon as a teen. My family has been in Rockville/Vernon for over 150 years. Rockville residents were known as “River Rats”
