2026 UConn Football Spring Ball

I love this. There was so much made about the players loving Mora and being attached to him and whatnot. In this day of the portal, there is really no attachment to a school, especially if a former coach moves on. To see Bell return to UConn and show appreciation and be with the new staff is really awesome to see. I love the guy and this just adds to it. He bleeds blue through and through. (Please don’t ruin this for me and tell me he was on campus for something else already…)

Now that Wan'dale Robinson is gone from the Giants I would love to see Bell on the Gmen. Not sure he would be available in round 3 and that they would take him in round 2. The kid is a winner and would be great with Dart and Nabers.

They don't have a 3rd round pick and they won't take him in the 2nd. But yeah, he could be fun there.

I just saw Flash Wilson tore is ACL on IG. Speedy recovery
Obviously it always stinks when a player has a serious injury like this. But…how big of a blow is this to the team….how much of a role was he expected to have?

I am still struggling to learn the key players…lol,

I don't think we will have even an idea of who should contribute until after spring game.

Interesting that #1 has not been issued per UConn Spring Roster.

Assuming that the highly demanded numbers have to be earned in the Spring or may be given out weekly based on practice/game performance. Or maybe we expect 2 high profile transfers.

#6 has been issued - I hope issued with great, heavy, thought to Jasper Howard's memory.
Not that it matters, and it might just be that I'm getting crotchety as I approach 1/2 a 100, but I will renew my disdain for #0 and #1 (Numbers only, not the players wearing them). I'm also on record for preferring not to double up on numbers. 85 players. UConn has not retired any numbers. That's 99 from which to choose.

OTOH, I do like when players choose non-traditional numbers for their position. A defensive lineman wearing #8, or a linebacker wearing #33 is perfectly acceptable. Marcus Easley wearing #29? Have at it. I've also been a long time fan of the Matt Rhule custom of assigning single digits to Non-OL captains and/or upperclassman as a reward for toughness, performance, and leadership, as voted upon by the players. I'm pretty sure other coaches do it too. I just associate it with Rhule from his Temple days.

#6 should always go to a player in the defensive secondary, IMO, but it's been nearly a generation and six coaches (Pasqualoni, Weist, Diaco, Edsall, Mora, and now Castle) removed since Howard passed away. It is what it is. With the monument under the scoreboard, it's just not that meaningful to current day players. Particularly for short term transfers.

once, just once, i'd love to see a receiver wear #75. sigh...

on the matter of #6 being meaningful, it would lose meaning over time regardless of NIL/transfer portal. it's up to the school to instill that as a value for the future generations of players. i have no opinion on the matter since i joined as a fan more than a decade after that. if uconn wants to keep it special, i think DON'T retire the number but endow the position, kind of like a professorship. also, number 6 must wear a special JH patch on his jersey. that'd be pretty cool, no?

I can't happen. Numbers 50-79 are ineligible for a non-lineman on offense. A player wearing one of those numbers can check in, allowing the referee to inform the defense of his eligibility, but it can't be a number for a player who will have multiple snaps from any of the six eligible offensive positions.
