What is crazy to me seeing all our higher end coaches are leaving after the bowl game was we were somehow able to flip the Syracuse recruit to come here before Candle was even hired. That strikes me as odd unless the kid just wanted to be here.

I'm betting an impressive portal recruit lineup will be forthcoming. Lots of coaching changes. Maximizing previous recruiting relationships with HS coaches, as well as recruits lost to higher level (B10) programs will pay off in the short term as he builds his program.

Building the roster now is like the NFL free agency. I imagine coach Candle is looking at all the gaps on our current roster, and looking for ways to fill the gap from his Toledo players or the portal. Since the portal officially open later, he still has time to put together a list based on our needs.

One thing is he definitely needs to upgrade the roster with more P4 level players. He can't just get all the players from Toledo and expect to compete against our next year's schedule with multiple P4 teams. He will need to assemble a roster that can compete either by re-recruit UConn players in the portal, get P4 level players in the portal, or recruit players from the current Toledo commits.

Many of the P-4 players have had no success or playing time at that level
Assuming they are better than players have already competed, and had success at Toledo or a similar level is a dubious assumption

The idea that somehow HCJC2 is going to try to compete with his Toledo team from last year is getting kind of old.

I'm pretty sure he is not taking "all the players from Toledo", but instead is bringing along the cream of the crop - players similar to his best from past years that have made all-league or all-American teams, or god forbid have been drafted in the NFL - you know, the ones he thinks will help win with UConn's schedule.
