Deion Thomas is a 6-4 195lb WR from Westlake High School in Atlanta Georgia. Other offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Austin Peay, Colorado, Duke, ECU, FAU, FIU, Florida, Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Jackson State, Kansas, Liberty, Marshall, Memphis, Michigan, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Oregon State, Pitt, Temple, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Tulane, UAB, UCF, Utah, Wake Forest and WVA.

Deion was on campus back the first weekend in June.

Highlights

Takes a lick and keeps on ticking

Something's cooking in Storrs. I find it hard to believe a kid with this type of offer list commits without knowing we won't be playing these patchwork Independent schedules much longer. Welcome to UConn, Deion.
or it could just be what was said further up. he's part of the new normal - play 1-2 years with us, get serious tape, and transfer to get an actual shot at one of the shiny schools he already got offered previously (where he probably was gonna wait 2 years anyway - so why not just play till then).

I wish it wasn't true but this is the more plausible scenario, to me. Welcome to post-NCAA college football

33 offers, almost every SEC school! Wow! Big time pickup
Yep, you wouldn't know it from the newest Rivals article. I've tried to work with (at the request of ) the last 4 publishers over there, to put out factual Uconn info. The latest pub is a Rutgers guy, SMH !....That's why it's always a pleasure to engage with the Uconn originals from the Boneyard ( I remember the Rivals exodus 20+ years ago. )

By the way ON3 another "ratings service" bought them out and takes over JULY 1st .....FWIW....

Sure, that the glass half empty view you like, But there are a bunch of schools on his offer list he could do a two year prep with. All in a conference situation better than ours.

Storrs Central also reported that he was recruited as a LB. That being said, it’s been reported that the rivals writer is known to have pulled scoops directly from there in the past, so i doubt this situation is any different.

Engage on twitter and the info flows....LOL!...

Rivals article is updated too !
"Now as you can see above, Thomas Jr. is ranked as a wide receiver per Rivals, but will be joining the Huskies as a defensive prospect, where he will likely play in a hybrid safety / linebacker role early on."

You may be right, but my point was that he might never see the field at those other schools.
maybe some garbage time reps or a little special teams/kickoff, but not what he actually wants.
IMO, the more you sit, the more you risk sitting longer.
Game film at UConn is a valuable resource, to get you a legit shot to be on the starting 11 (or at least truly in the rotation) at a P4 school.

also, forgot to add - in the NIL/rev share age, it is very possible he is positioning himself for a payday to go with his transfer to the shiny school.

That payday wouldn't happen if he went there on day 1, didn't start, and was just getting practice reps, even if he was rewarded with some playing time for his loyalty to the "shiny" school. He'd get more money at the end of his college career by seeing the field ASAP at a smaller school, balling OUTTT on film (hopefully), and then using that to strike a more lucrative deal with a P4 school with deeper pockets than us. And if he DOESN'T ball out, well at least he's playing unlike at a Michigan or Bama.

In the end, I think Jim Mora knows this and is leaning into it, instead of throwing a RE2.0 hissyfit about it. If this is our lot, then just let's set our expectation to ball OUTT with this kid while we have him, win some bowls and surprise some people, and do it again next year. As tony soprano would say in powerless moments, "waddaya gonna do?"
