2026 recruiting breakdown

Jake thinks:
1) UConn is currently the leader for mingo
2) Landrew can play next to mingo and UConn is "in a really good place with him." a project not a one and done.
3) county is also in the mix. one of the best playmakers in the class. would also come off the bench as a frosh.
4) wade versus hurley for cloer. NCST "has the edge." jake doesnt think UConn is the best fit for cloer for some reason.

overall we're looking for instant impact freshmen even if theyre coming off the bench.

grain of salt but zanetto thinks it's a 3-4 person class which would seem to imply mingo, landrew, county

Give me Mingo and let the chips fall where they may for the others.

So from the podcast omitting Samuels and Howard, are we supposed to conclude they are just casual offers, or just that these guys have no insight to share on their recruitment? The Kieta visit was also a nothingburger or just no insight into that recruitment also?

I agree with @HooperScooper. 'All In' on Mingo and then happy with anything else. My order of happiness is below:
Mingo (Championship caliber talent)
Kieta (great talent, no idea if he is a realistic possibility but he did see us in his whirlwind tour)

Samuels & Toure (multi yr college players wired to score, sometimes inefficiently)
Landrew (great multi yr foundation piece bringing some power to his position)
Cloer (Always good to have a 6'8 shooter who will likely have a full college career)
Howard (crafty wired to score, I just think he needs the ball in his hands more than our passing system)
County (his ranking is the only thing I know after watching 2 of his games live, maybe he's great, I don't know)

FYI: I like Landrew as much as Samuels & Toure but I think next years team needs a player with a score first mind set that they bring. It wouldn't surprise me if Landrew wasn't the better player over a career. I think Samuels, Toure, Howard, and Landrew are mutually exclusive. I assume Mingo & County are also mutually exclusive.

Bryson Howard cancelled his visit, don't think we're recruiting him

I assumed we wouldn't get a Mingo or a Rippey because our 26-27 backcourt is already looking to be loaded, but if the pieces fit for a 3-guard lineup like we did in '24 between Silas/Solo/Mingo, then he is crown jewel #1

I wanted Cloer because of the way he spoke about UConn and Hurley, I knew he'd be a great culture fit (oh and a 6'7 SG wouldn't be too bad either) but sounds like he's staying home with NC St

I wanted Toure because he's local and it's always good to have a strong/athletic dog on your roster. But also sounds like he's not coming here

We love our late risers so Landrew feels like a good get. County looks really solid but I'm a bit scarred from recruiting PGs and then not playing them much, which we wouldn't if we have Silas/Solo/maybe Mingo/most likely 1-2 incoming transfers at G

So must get Mingo and I'd be happy if we got him and nothing else. Next priority Landrew and spend a few years developing his scoring game. County would be icing on the cake but not holding my breath there. I'm just assuming Howard and Qayden are off the table but I'd love Howard.

Well we certainly aren’t getting Rippey lol

Watching College game day from Penn State I noticed a few get Wingo signs in the crowd. I know there going all in but still surprising.

Is it looking loaded? If we have a really successful season it’s not out of the question that our guard cupboard ends up completely bare.
