2026 Elite Eight - Sunday (the other game)

Arizona. Also Michigan and Duke looked like they both played B+ games and Duke beat them in that one.
Arizona doesn’t shoot the 3 well enough imo. That’s why i give Michigan the edge. All incredible teams though

Good on Jalen Carey. I’d take that tech. Protect your guy. Game is over anyway lol

Would Johnson be a Center on most BE teams?

30 point Elite 8 blowouts are lame.

May probably walking back his backcourt next year with Cadeau/McKenney, but will have to rebuild the 3-5. No way he's going to come close to this assortment - seems like a once in a lifetime collection getting Mara/Johnson/Yaxel.

.-.
Yaxel is a clown. Don’t like the guy. Classic front runner. I want them to lose just to shut him up.

Team got this far with smoke and mirrors. SEC had one team that was supposed to be better than S16, Florida. Kind of did what was expected. Not sure why you keep at it instead of recognizing them for what they are - a team with very good team in the middle, and bottom.

If anything, the B12 flamed out early. Most of it's teams either lost of lost to worse seeds. Houston, Kansas, Iowa St all underachieved.

The SEC was wildly overrated. I was right, and you were wrong, and you are going to hear about it as long as we both post on this site.

They embarrassed #1 seed Duke, just dunking on them all second half, literally and metaphorically. That was the closest we've come to facing Duke in the Tournament in the last 20 years.
Still one of my all time favorite Tourney games. Outscored them by 22 in the 2nd half IIRC.

.-.
I agree. It’s losing by 40 that is unacceptable in an elite 8 game. No shame in losing to any of these 1 seeds.
I think we may have to get used to this.

Gonna pay close attention to this portal season as seeing AZ & UM build two superteams with basically new players is not something I know if I want to see year over year.

We know how has the top NIL now, so gonna be really interesting to see see how the portal talent shakes out. It doesn't feel like there are going to be as many really great parts in the portal this year as there was last.

Did see an article that said that AZ & Illinois are the two best International scouting staffs in the country, both have multiple starters.

I think Iowa State without Jefferson would’ve gave a better effort
No question Iowa State would have given Michigan a better match with Joshua Jefferson. Iowa State played Arizona down to the buzzer in the Big 12 Championship so they would not have been startstruck facing Michigan.

Iowa State the last 2 years is a cautionary tale of how important it is to maintain good health going into the NCAAT, not that injuries can be controlled. Last year they were the #3 seed, but their PG Lipsey was hurt and Keshon Gilbert was injured.

Arizona has Tommy Lloyd as their head coach and he used to be the assistant head coach under Mark Few at Gonzaga. Lloyd was a big reason why Gonzaga always got good foreign players going back the last 2 decades. You now see good foreign players on Arizona in Dell'Orso, Krivas, and Kirchenkov.

Michigan looks legit scary, like top 3 team of the 2020s potential.
They have been great all year and this is after they lost their backup PG LJ Cason.

With the exception of the Michigan fans, I can safely speak for the rest of the college basketball fans in saying the Mercy Rule should take effect.. now. Just end the game with 7:46 left.

Sounds like Shaka Smart syndrome.

I don't think I understand this. Are you suggesting UConn was underseeded as 1 and 2 seeds in the 1990s, and that contributed to those particular four losses?
  1. 1990: 1 UConn vs. 3 Duke: UConn definitionally not underseeded.
  2. 1995: 1 UCLA vs. 2 UConn: UConn appropriately seeded. Might have gotten the final 1 seed, but got destroyed by Villanova in the BET Finals. Also got destroyed by Kansas, who was one of the final 1-seeds. BE was weak these years, too.
  3. 1998: 1 UNC vs. 2 UConn: There were six teams competing for 1-seeds, and it made some sense to be seeded a 2 (basically in the 4/5 of RPI in the time). Also, the framing of the time meant that to get the closer-to-school reward, you had to be in the region (i.e. to play in DC, you needed to be in the East).
  4. 2002: 1 Maryland vs. 2 UConn: UConn was a 6-loss team without much claim to a 1-seed, and with pretty weak metrics.
In none of these were they underseeded. In 1995 they played UCLA in Oakland (I mean, that's fairly far away from LA), and in 1998 they played in Greensboro (that sucked), but that's just the draw sometimes. Since, teams have had to play UConn in NYC or Boston or Worcester.
No, I'm saying they've been underseeded a lot which makes it more difficult to advance. Not that they were underseeded in these specific 4 years. For instance, we were underseeded in 2023.

Lol - refs letting Tenn push UM guy, no call, UM guy takes about 3 backwards steps with ball, no call, as he motions to ref for the foul. Guy swings it to the corner for a walkon to bang a three.

What a drubbing.

I took a nap for most of the second half. Gotta be fresh to help my Huskies win.
I had to get some work done and I didn't watch one second of the 2nd half. I only occasionally peeked on ESPN.com and saw the score widening more than the size of the Grand Canyon, which I suspected was going to happen.

Why is Dusty still playing his starters?
Its not football, mental engagement is more important. Cadeau and Lendebourg are immature. Sitting them too long in a big victory will ruin their focus.
