We up!

Need Kierstan Bell to disappear into an abyss.

Not able to watch the game tonight but this caught my eye on Twitter.

It's unbelievable to me that it took this long for someone to work with her and get her to this point. Some of that is on her too, but Frese and Mulkey both didn't get the job done. Obviously she was a very productive player at both schools, but she was just missing some such basic fundamentals to her game.

It’s one preseason game but the Aces had better chemistry tonight than literally anything I saw from them last season. Still extremely thin in the post outside of Wilson though. I continue to dream of a world where Vegas under Hammon finds an offensively competent post to pair with her. Nye looked great, I think she’s a perfect stylistic fit for Vegas and can help replace Plum’s deadeye shooting. Brings some nice size too. I think Vegas’ season rides on Gray returning to form (passed the eye test for me) and Loyd gelling with the team in a reduced role (early to tell but seems very happy to be in LV).

Quiet debut from Bueckers but still had some nice moments. I think she’ll play much heavier minutes as the season progresses. She played as late into the college season as she could and the Wings can and should play the long game given her injury history.

I’m almost certain Clark will get it done first, likely this year or next, but if I was betting I might place some early money on an Angel Reese MVP run within the next 5 years. She was already an elite player as a rookie despite having no range and awful fundamentals but seems to have a work ethic and hunger to improve as good as anyone’s in the league. Either way she’s already a far cry from being a player many (myself included) thought would struggle to play in the W.

To you point about it being on her, could it be that the light bulb finally went off for her? Her athleticism allowed her to get away with a lot. Not to mention, Leslie has been coaching for years, including the Big 3. She has an ability to connect with players in ways that Frese and Mulkey can't.

Her development reminds me of Pascal Siakam when he was drafted by the Raptors. Granted he started basketball a little later in life, but he was raw and needed time for refinement. It started to show when they won the NBA title in 2019. Years later, his game improved so much it was impossible for the Raptors to keep him and they did the right thing by trading him to Indiana.

From the WNBA Transaction Pages of Friday, May 2nd:

  • Kaitlyn Davis was waived by the New York Liberty
  • Anneli Maley was waived by the Los Angeles Sparks

Wilson sure looked great, against a non existent defense, but she sure looked like an MVP

They looked like they were locked in, which is a far cry from how they looked during last year's preseason game against Puerto Rico. To me, Jackie looks better now than her 2023 season (which was a high water mark for her). She's going to be a force this season!

There's one more offensively competent post option who's holding off on being signed until after EuroBasket. We'll see if she picks Vegas. Meanwhile, Becky is going to go with her fave (Kiah) until the wheels fall off.

Loved what I saw from Nye. Her defense looks solid, too. She's the Alysha Clark replacement (much, much younger and much, much cheaper). Tiff Mitchell looked great, too.

I was really impressed with Sonia Citron during today's preseason game! She looked like she's been playing in the league for YEARS. She can certainly be Atkins' replacement if she continues to grow.

Sophie was as annoying as ever, and it looks like she drew the ire of vets (Sykes) and rookies (Iriafen) alike!

Cunningham is really going to contribute .... She's a player you love on your team and absolutely despise if you're playing against her

OT gave new meaning to preseason game with a bunch of non roster players on the floor.

The Fever can really shoot free throws and in the OT Washington non roster folks couldn't make a lay up

Great opening weekend of WNBA preseason games!! Paige looked decent out there. Great see her in her first WNBA game. The Aces looked decent as well and it was great see another rookie (Aaliyah Nye) out there playing well also.

Chicago/Brazil: Angel Reese shot the ball very well. Hailey Van Lith looked pretty good out there in her first game. Same with Maddy. That Sky team is going to shock a lot of people this season.

Indiana/Washington: Sophie Cunningham looks comfortable out there and it showed! Well done, Sophie!! Sonia Citron & Kiki Iriafen are going to be a huge plus for Washington. This was a fun game to watch. Odd to see Bonner in a different uniform. I can't wait for Sunday's games!

Who knows? This comment from the head coach caught my attention. It will be interesting to see who makes the final roster.

Given what happened in Seattle with multiple injuries to tall guards/wings, the Storm might be interested in contacting Ms. Sellers' agent.

Sonia started and played 22 minutes; scoring 15 points on 5-6 overall shooting, 2-3 from three and 3-3 from FT line. Had 4 rebounds and two assists. Proud of my fellow ND alum...oops, graduation for Citron isn't for another week or so ;)

These events at alma mater schools are awesome. Look at that smile on that girl's face. She's going to remember this forever.
