I went through somewhat the same exercise, but realized that Siegrist -- much like Alyssa Ustby -- is shorter than one thinks, just adept at getting to the ball and spots in which she/they can do something with it. The players who will back up Smith are either Dorka Juhasz or Jess Shepard, back from two solid winters of Euro ball. Both have height and inside-out games. Shep is still an absolute stellar rebounder and outlet passer, while Dorka is great with the pick and pop.
Yeah, forgot about Shep. You're right, they're nicely loaded at the 4.

Weekend Update (no, not SNL, but WNBA....)

  • Julia Ayrault is out for the 2025 season due to a Personal Decision. (Mercury)
  • Morgan Maly was waived by the Conn. Sun on Saturday...or a day before the workouts started.
  • DeYona Gaston signed a Rookie Scale Contract with the Atlanta Dream.

Researching for my fantasy team and see that Chennedy Carter signed with a Mexican League team.

Interesting move and I wonder what the pay scale South of the border is.

Evidently against lesser competition Carter's been superlative. Her experience in China demonstrated her ability to score the ball.

Wonder if she's slammed shut the door to the w or will she reappear after the All-Star break

When the Sky announced the hiring of Courtney Paris, I was excited to see how Cardoso and Reese would develop. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out.

That first preseason game for Dallas is pretty tough. Against the Aces on Friday night. Less than a week of practice and that is what they have to deal with.

Here is some info about watching these games:

Sigh....a part of WNBA pre-season I dislike because they start quickly.....:(

The Sun signed a lot of people to fill a lot of slots, but they've already culled three players from the gym.
Agree that it's a part of the process I don't like. Hoping Hsu, who I've seen play in person, gets a chance -- if not this year, then when the league expands next year by two teams.

Watching her shoot a 3 I can't help but think of her iconic bankshot

She practiced them at South Carolina but never took them in a game (with exception to the famous bankshot) despite the coaches encouraging her to do so.

that was expected on Aubrey. By me anyway. She is kind of like a Holmes or Kitley this year I guess.

Honestly, this is the right answer. Lose the battle, win the war. Her athleticism is too central to her game to be operating at 70 percent.
I know but it still sucks. The injuries some players endure before making the pro level blows my mind some days.

Skylar Diggins said of the Storm that it's the most talented roster she's ever been on. The 20-21 Mercury are low key one of the funnest forgotten teams. I guess we do tend to forget the runner ups but IDK if this Storm team is as talented as that Mercury team. I'm actually having a hard time determining who their top 8 players are. Unless she's really high on Lexi Brown and Katie Lou. I like both but idk. The championship talk out of Seattle early is interesting. I don't think they have a top 4 roster (Lv, nyl, min, Indiana)

Looking at the Storm's roster (especially without Malonga in camp yet), it's hard to understand what Skylar's talking about. Without even looking past the "faces of the franchise," that Mercury team had two future Hall of Famers in DT and BG, while this Storm team has Nneka.

It's hard for me not to hear her comment as shade against that Mercury team—or perhaps against Jewell Loyd, who is a major piece of the Storm lineup that's different from last year. Perhaps it was an innocent comment made in the excitement of the new season, but SDS is a very smart woman with over a decade and a half of media training; I'm not sure how innocent it was.
