How can his statement saying that looking at it from a share perspective isn't the way to look at it not an indication that revenue share is not on the table? That's the first sentence of his quote.

ilver did a sit-down interview on NBC's "The Today Show" about the start of the 2025-26 NBA season.

As the interview with Craig Melvin would down, Melvin asked Silver whether he believed players should receive a larger share of revenue in the next CBA, citing the 9% figure that has been widely referenced in public debate of the topic.

Silver began his answer with a direct answer of "yes", which is in line with what the WNBPA is fighting for.

That is the exact opposite of what the OG headline said

That's not how it's been reported by anyone since the interview. Annie Costabile's article for Front Office that I posted previously have said the same thing. So which is it? Regardless how the quote was interpreted/misinterpreted, revenue sharing isn't on the table based on multiple reports.

Yeah, Adam Silver did a blatant bait and switch (he lied), by giving two contradictory answers to Craig Melvin’s question &1:

Craig Melvin: “… they get 9.00% of total revenue compared to roughly 50.00% of revenue for NBA players. Should they be getting a larger share of the revenue for the WNBA?”

Adam Silver: “YES. I mean share is not the right way to look at it because there’s so much more revenue in the NBA. I think you should look at it in absolute numbers in terms of what they’re making and they will get a big increase in this cycle of collective bargaining and they deserve it.”

So the answer is a NO. (Silver is blatantly double speaking to avoid giving a (true) negative sound bite).

And the share seems to be declining since the Media Rights Deal allocation is reportedly 6x the old one, whereas the fixed salaries in the latest proposals are reportedly 4x of the old one.

I'm taking the over on this one. Adam Silver is practically a casting agent's dream for nerdy villain, so I think the chances of that are as likely as the Valkyries landing Stewie in the offseason.

I saw in the WaPo this morning that the two sides have agreed to extend the barganing period for another month.

Beyond that things would get dicey — the last expansion draft was in December, but who knows, AFAIK theres’s no date set for that.

And the WNBA can terminate the extension with 48 hours notice. Everything is up in the air if you ask me.

I am glad that both sides agreed to an extension. At least this prevents a total work stoppage. Given the timing of everything, a work stoppage would be a punch in the gut for every team but would hurt those expansion teams a lot more in the long run.

While the WNBA and players union are locked in tense negotiations, former WNBA MVP Nneka Ogwumike has signed a contract with Project B, a new league expected to launch next winter.

Not sure if this deserves a new thread, but saw this article about that Project B league that's expected to start in 2026.
 
The president of the WNBPA joining as a player/investor in a basketball league that is literally promoting itself as a rival of the WNBA is a crazy conflict of interest but nothing surprises me anymore with the dealings of the WNBA.

Maybe, I actually see it the opposite: if the members of the WNBPA have attractive competing options, that actually increases their bargaining power, including being able to strike and afford to do so. I see Unrivaled largely the same way. The only way there's a conflict of interest is if these activities actually hurt the incentive or bargaining power of the WNBPA, and I don't see either of them as doing that.

If the players actually want the wnba to exist, I think they should replace Nneka. Appoint someone new for that position.
