I found a new saying to use to mix things up with my colleagues today. This board never fails to deliver. :)
LOL your delight at Southernisms (rocket surgery!) is my favorite non-basketball joy of this board. Between you, me, and the fencepost, the more common version is "even a blind squirrel finds a nut," but hog-acorn is not unheard of. Would love to see a heat map and see if it varies by region within the South.

It never hurts to have several versions of a phrase at the ready. Helps to keep things fresh ;)

First, Southern dialect and phraseology is the only proper way to speak.
Second, I remember a few years ago ago during a press conference when Coach Schaefer used the phrase “Katie, bar the door” when describing the results once Chloe Bibby reached her full potential. She was sitting next to him, and you could tell by the look on her face she had no idea what he was saying.

I never said, definitively that she was in Columbia, just that it was my understanding she was in Columbia that day. If I said I saw her at Soda City Market that Saturday, you'd have a point. OTOH, Okot WAS photographed at the downtown market yesterday.

Y'all better hope that she didn't visit any BBQ places or eat any peaches. That would be a bad way to lose a possible commitment.

Hey per the post below, we're educating a lot of people today ;)
I am very southern/redneck yet have never heard this one until today. I will save it later lol.

You could fill the Library of Alexandria twice over with things Miss State fans have never heard. Just ask an Ole Miss fan. :)

(reason I initially mentioned geographic heat map is, from personal experience, my guess would be hog-acorn is more upland, mountain South, which excludes all of Mississippi)

The Ole Miss faithful believe in their superior intellect but it's really just the buzz of the wine and toddys from the Grove on game days lol.

When I first moved from small town Mississippi to Greensboro, NC, I confused some colleagues with my colloquialisms.

In Canada, redneck applies to several areas/categories:

1). Areas that are considered outside of a major city/suburban area. For example, where I live, they love referencing redneck pride because the area is a mix of cottage country and rural farmers.

2). The prairies the include Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.

3). Northern BC.

Now if you want some interesting sayings, I'd suggest taking a trip out to the East Coast. Between New Brunswick and Newfoundland, you'll probably get enough to fill a couple books, provided you can understand the accents. ;)

Does Vanderbilt have a portal strategy? Because it doesn't seem like it. Throwing money around to players who aren't going to get them to SEC contender status seems--odd. What they paid for ADR is diabolical.

Be still my heart. I've loved this kid since I first saw her play as a junior in high school. You might not believe this, but this morning I was looking at a picture of Mikayla Blakes at Kelsey Plum's Dawg deal, and she was sitting next to Heckel. I thought how sweet it would be if Mikayla brought Heckel back to Nashville with her. I might be one of those voodoo guys and just never realized it.

Maybe she thought she was going to start. That ended with the signing of Gracie Merkle.
I know y'all need height/size, but I'd rather have Kubek than Merkle.

I think Kubek can be effective in the ACC. Too bad Duke doesn't need her--because that'd be the funniest thing (considering the Oluchi recruitment).

You know how much Vandy paid for ADR ?

Let me put it this way. A recent 3x ACC POY, in multiple seasons at her university, didn't approach what Vanderbilt is paying ADR for ONE season. They'd better get All-SEC level production for her for THAT.

If Vanderbilt was serious about contending in the SEC, there were far more sensible options at that price. That's a panic purchase.
