The portal season is built around the academic calendar. Not sure there is much wholesale change that can be done. Kids that want out want to get to their next school ASAP to be part of spring practice. What a bizarre time of year - practicing, bowl prep, portals in/out. This can’t be what ANYONE wants.
Using this year as an example, I think the solution is to have the portal window open January 21st, the day after the Championship game, and run until February 15th with the late NLI day February 7th. Spring practice usually starts around March 1st, with a couple of schools starting earlier, but that can be changed. Kids would be allowed to transfer and participate in Spring practice and take short classes or take no classes in the Spring semester. If they don't take classes in the Spring semester, they would be required to attend summer school. The portal season is built around the academic calendar. The tweak ahead might be to exempt all post season play from the four game redshirt limitation.
And allow anyone in a bowl team a 14 day window post bowl/playoff season end to enter the portal and change schools.
I'll take it... with all that we've been through. What a bizarre time of year - practicing, bowl prep, portals in/out. This can’t be what ANYONE wants.
Having this same talk with a good friend whose is a PSU fan and ticket holder. He's all upset about Prybula. Ain't the kid's fault. The portal season is built around the academic calendar. Pribula even sort of apologized for the timing. Not much you can do based on the academic calendar.Having this same talk with a good friend whose is a PSU fan and ticket holder. He's all upset about Prybula. Ain't the kid's fault.
Yes, because ALL of this is being done in the spirit of maintaining academic integrity.
