2025 International Recruiting

Not where I want college basketball going, but since it is going there I want UConn at the forefront and getting ahead of the curve.
And why don’t you want American basketball to go there?

Sorry if I sound like a broken record, but I continue to wonder why anyone listens to another coach’s pitch after he’s heard from Dan Hurley.

Sure, I get that we seem pretty loaded, so he’d really have to earn PT. But if you have confidence in yourself, isn’t it better to come off the bench/be in the rotation at a school that’s going to again compete for the national championship? Even if you feel you’ll be a starter, is it better to play at a minimally contending school, like Virginia or Iowa?
there's life beyond college basketball, going to a school where you get minutes and reps can advance you faster(certain cases) than other players who have to ride the bench early. For example look at Bub Carrington and his AAU teammates Solo Ball and Jayden Ross.

I mean I understand some of the sentiment. Incoming freshmen are going to find it harder than it already is. Also some of these international players are playing semi-pro ball up to age 21-22 and will have significant eligibility. I think it’s less about the international players as it is about the worry that CBB will soon be dominated by 22-26 year olds.
Unless you’re top 10-15 there is no point going to a top program that wants to win the NC every year, if you want PT. Unless you are getting more NIL to ride pine, which begs why any school would burn NIL for a bench kid. There will come a time soon where anyone below that line is going to go second tier program to play, and they can just transfer after that year.

These smaller classes the staff is referring to will likely be 1-2 top kids, otherwise save it for the portal. 611s worst nightmare but he’s had his head in the sand hoping 2000 was coming back, as does 90% of this board.

Reibe and Furphy are going to play, Reibe is going to play a lot.

I don’t see a problem, anyone who played pro ball is not coming in with 4 years eligibility. There aren’t enough American born stud players to fill up every roster spot in high level division 1 anyways. It also may lead to some guys choosing playing time at low majors early on in their career to set themselves up for high major transferring opportunities down the road.

I think the concept is you go to a program like that if you are next up, not 3rd: Nowell, Abraham, Maheney, Singare even Darius would be 3rd for their positions. But coming in 2nd makes for having a great senior to help you freshman year, then the position is yours sophomore year. At least that used to be a viable strategy.
