Good chance we bring in a portal qb that can compete for starter. I suspect Welliver is the projected starter right now in Mora’s mind.
Did Welliver get any snaps today?

JF is the guy I thought we were referring to as leaving all along (eligibility exhausted). We have 4 chilly QBs for '25 in Evers, Welliver, McDonald, and in coming true frosh K Farrar. Ideally, having 5 QB on Scholls works best for us. Or am I wrong here and missed something?

It may have been true at other places. Not here. If your son had four years of P, it didn't happen here, nice for your personal experience. That Michigan game was one the most disappointing losses I have witnessed. The most storied program to come play here and they gifted the game to us only we managed to say no thank you. He also had the team totally unprepared for the Towson game... He wasted the most football talent than any UConn football coach probably in program history.
P was way past his prime when he came here. I remember the Cuse board was incredulous. Absolutely beside themselves. And George DL? They predicted our rapid demise and they were right. But I still blame the whole thing on Edsall. He abandoned the team on Jan 1. Leaving no coach, no recruiting, no leader, no nothing. And yes we were in a mad scramble. When we picked P Mr. Burton demanded all his money back. His kid went to Syracuse and played for P. Burton was livid. So, maybe P had his time. It wasn’t in his latter years at Cuse, and it certainly wasn’t here.

No. He wasn’t expected to. My theory on Welliver is we kept him under wraps so he wouldn’t get baited into the portal. Welliver looks really good in practice and can sling it. I don’t think we keep him on the bench another year, although one more year learning might be ideal. If he doesn’t play next season, I think he’ll get really frustrated.

I mean how many years of learning do you expect? I know college football is getting silly but the time to emerge is now.

I agree. However, it may be evident to the powers that be that he isn’t ready. He looks talented to me, but that doesn’t mean he can run things out there. I’m just guessing that the staff know he’s our future QB and didn’t want someone coming in and stealing him. I could be wrong, but he looks so smooth, it’s hard to ignore.

All that said, Tim Boyle looked great in practice and he couldn’t have been stiffer or more unprepared when he first hit the field.

Looks like SDSU qb Mark Gronowski may be entering the portal. If he does he probably follows his coach to Washington State. I know Big Ten schools had been in his ear in the past but he decided to stay FCS.

Would be a coup to land that kid.
