IS4S Salute to Veterans Bowl
Cramton Bowl (Montgomery, Alabama)
Tuesday, Dec. 16
9 p.m., ESPN
Bonagura: UConn vs. Toledo

JLab Birmingham Bowl
Protective Stadium (Birmingham, Alabama)
Monday, Dec. 29
2 p.m., ESPN
Schlabach: Troy vs. UConn

Idk who needs to hear this, but we won’t be in the Pop Tarts Bowl. That’s becoming a marquee bowl with all the cool marketing gimmicks they do, and I think they take two high finishers from power conferences.

I too want the Pop Tarts Bowl, but we need to adjust our expectations.
I don’t think we will go either but not because of the big name brands being more preferred. Miami of OHIO went last Year. They’re gonna want us to be more on the East Coast because of a possible draw and travel. Pinstripebowl or a Fenway bowl would be great.

ughhh these are the exact kinda bowls i'm hoping we won't get.
still holding out hope to see Bell & Fagnano face a solid P4 program as their final game.

We HAVEEE to beat duke, to get a shot at a p4. if we lose to Duke, then we'll probably land in one of these ^ even if we finish 8-4 ... sigh

Wonder if the ranking of our key offensive players (JF/Bell/Edwards) make us a bigger draw than normal?
Bowls want dynamic offenses over stingy defense. Scoring sells tickets

Obviously I’d think if we get 9 wins we’ll see a bigger bowl. Pinstripe, Fenway, Gasparilla, etc. 6-8 we’ll see Boca, Birmingham, or Myrtle.

I don’t they’d consider our star players because 75% of talent sits out bowl games.

I think biggest considerations are
1. How well Alumni travel for bowl game
2. Ratings expected based on matchup

If we get to 8 wins, I think a repeat of Fenway is possible. After last year’s game, and how our fans flooded Boston for the day, I can imagine they would absolutely want that again as opposed to a team like East Carolina or Tulane bringing only a few fans up

given that we have six wins so far, if we win another (to make it seven wins), are we locked in for a bowl game then?

in other words, will the committees consider all 7-5 record teams (hopefully we do better, but still), as “above” any 6-6 team regardless of conference affiliation?

to add on to that, currently up to 88 teams could be eligible by the end of the season. statically speaking, this is unlikely and will likely drop to a 78 to 80 range, and historically, most teams have always gotten a bowl at 6-6 even with independent status; but it did make me wonder if a 7-5 (or above) record will fully lock us in above all 6-6 universities.

Reality Check:

We are an independent.........decidedly not with the cache of Notre Dame.

While Bowl eligible, we are way behind the pecking order of a number of mediocre teams in the Power 4. Their bowl tie-ins may well preclude us from a bowl invitation. We need to accept the fact that our bowl invitation prospects rely heavily on P4 teams failing to gain bowl eligibility.

That's life. We need to live with it as long as we pine for P4 membership.

I mean, sure, but does a 7-5 record guarantee us to NOT be cooked; or does any record regardless not mean anything since we’re a non-conference program?

Effectively yes, the first teams they’d cut if need be would be 6-6 G5 teams. I wouldn’t be worried about not making it though.

Horse hockey. UConn is one of 136 FBS programs and is bowl eligible. And even in the extremely remote possibility UConn does not get invited to a bowl game, that would create even more buzz around the program. UConn will be playing football in December.

What I don't understand is all the negativity. The most important thing to the coaches is the extra weeks of practice they get in. Not so much which bowl game that they go to. They will go bowing. Doesn't matter where.

Imagine complaining about going to a bowl game? Liek 5 years ago we'd be killing for what we have now in terms of record and performance on the field.

Since we have no automatic bowl tie-ins because of our independent status, it's all up to how many teams are bowl-eligible after the final week of the regular season. We were fortunate enough to not only have vacant bowl bids available to us last year, but got an ideal bowl game in Boston against an ACC team. Hopefully we get a similar deal this year.
We don’t need a vacancy to get a bid. We will get one. UConn has become an attractive get. At 9-3 very attractive. At 8-4 still good.
