Nobody seems to mention the possibility that FOUR of these top recruits might decide they want to get on our bandwagon. Is there a scenario where that might happen?
If staff is confident stew is going pro then I think it’s conceivable we get Lewis, Adams, Bundalo and Reibe. I say Adams instead of Thomas or Mullins because It’s not clear if Adams would play much as a frosh even tho he’s a 5* and that could mean there’s enough PT to go around for the other 3.

A thread to put forth your current roster hopes.

Guards
I like at least 4 quality guards with a mix of attributes
(2 PG and a 3rd that is capable of adequately playing the role if required)
(At least 1 who is a knockdown 3 point shooter)
(At least 1 guard with 6'4 to 6'6 size)
(At least 1 who is a defensive stopper)
(At least 3 who are greater than 75% from the line to close out games)
We have Mahaney, Nowell, & Ball with eligibility for next year. 1 additional guard is necessary.
I prefer to add size & more shooting rather than prioritizing a playmaker (especially since I want to prioritize Rippey in 2026 to replace Mahaney)
For me it is Mullins & Thomas as 1a & 1b then Lewis then I am indifferent between Adams/Furphy or Portal

Forwards/Wings
The issue is who is going pro because from an eligibility standpoint we don't need anybody
Karaban, McNeeley, Stewart, Abraham, & Ross all could come back, and 5 players at these 2 positions seems right
My own view would be to recruit for 1 spot and fill out with the portal
Ament would have been great as a front court scoring threat but is evidently off the board
Bundalo would be a great get because his size paired with a center would be a front court mismatch with most teams
I assume we didn't pursue Aristode & Jameson because their physical stature & skills are a complete overlap to the existing guys
It looks like Bundalo or portal/foreign if we miss

Centers
I prefer 3 centers on the roster that allow the team to play in a variety of ways
(1 power, 1 rim protector, 1 stretch)
(At least 1 that can hit more than 70% from the line)
(At least 1 >240lbs and at least 1 bonafide 7')
(At least 1 that sets great screens, and 1 that is a good enough passer to play thru)
Reed & Singare have eligibility
Reibe is a great target to add the true 7' & outside shooting (I assume Cenac is not really in play)

Mullins/Thomas are difference makers from the get go
Bundalo/Reibe can become difference makers
I'm ok with portaling wherever we miss but prefer to get at least 1 of these 4 impact guys
I would be very surprised if Karaban doesn’t go pro after this year.

I would be very surprised if Karaban doesn’t go pro after this year.
I expect Karaban and McNeeley to go pro and Stewart to test the waters and return, hence my interest in Bundalo as an impact 4 who has the height to be a small ball / emergency deep depth 5 like Alex has. We have had great success at the 5 throwing 2 very contrasting style players at teams. Bundalo with his height and style would sort of give us that type of contrast at the 4 splitting time with classic prototypes Stewart/Abraham/Ross at the 4. Additionally, as good as he is, I would hope/expect he needs at least 2 years to get to the NBA based on his need for more strength and physical maturity to be successful at that level. That gives us some real punch at that position for a window of time. I haven't heard much about our chances with Bundalo so was thrilled to listen to the Jake W. interview where he thought UConn would get him. Jake is talking directly and often with many of the kids including Reibe, and based on his comments, seemed to have at least some direct association with Bundalo's dad who evidently has an impact personality, (did Jake say pigtails?). The comment is worth something to me on the trail of recruiting hope.

I wanted either Ament or Bundalo to replace our expected front court 'pros'. I assumed we had a better chance with Ament with his close relationship with Abraham and was bummed to see his recent list. Now I'm just as pumped to be told we stand well with Bundalo.

Open question to the board, has anyone heard anything more about our association with the Australian 6'4 guard Furphy who had indicated might visit us?

I’ve seen him in at least one pre season mock draft as a first rounder. Second rounder in others.
You are correct. I see him at #31 in nba draft rooms mock 2025. That is pretty amazing given his limited PT last year. Perhaps playing for the championship gets you noticed.

No speculation on players leaving early for any reason other than the NBA. No transfer speculation.

If he’s not one of the go to guys on this years team I don’t see how that happens.

He’s not going to the draft this year being a catch and shoot guy.
Yeah, thought he only showed glimpses of it last year he did show he has a handle and can create his own shot. Some are selling him short. He was on one of the most talenteed UConn teams ever and was able to carve out some time last year. I expect a big jump. Whether that translates to NBA is yet to be determined. He definitely has the skillset to get there though.

not exactly 25-26 but here's a good take on liam. basically if you put a big smart guy who can shoot on uconn he'll be thermonuclear.

My bet would be that Stewart is back and starting at SF or PF junior year

For him to be an NBA first round draft pick, that means either he showed out enough to be an NBA prospect off the bench (really good), or that McNeeley struggled and Stewart took his minutes (really bad)

stewie just needs to play impactful minutes with good shooting. the starting or not is immaterial.

not exactly 25-26 but here's a good take on liam. basically if you put a big smart guy who can shoot on uconn he'll be thermonuclear.

Liam McNeeley, UConn

Realistic expectation: Starting wing

Burning college question: Is the conditioning where it has to be?

Hopefully, McNeeley is ready to run because Dan Hurley's layered offense is going to have him zooming up and down the floor in transition and also flying in and around screens to find openings for treys. McNeeley is best suited to step into the role as the top off-movement shooter for this UConn roster. It's a tough task for anybody, especially a freshman, but McNeeley won't be tasked with doing something he's not capable of executing. Hurley's ability to cover up weaknesses and maximize strengths might be more beautiful than his intricate halfcourt sets. Hopefully, McNeeley's got some track shoes in his locker because he'll need 'em.

Think he's the first I've seen having him top 5.

I love that Liam's fit is so good that the "question" is just "dude this guy is going to rock."

it really depends on the draft order. the 'draft twitter' crowd think more like teams like houston. more traditional teams may prefer a self creation type.

Lol at conditioning being the question.

Like what do you think everyone on the team is going to be doing to prepare for the season? Especially a Hurley coached team.

Definitely agree he has the ability and showed it some last year. The thing with Stew from the moment he committed has always been figuring out how to fit his play style with the offense and the team if he’s not the “guy”. Guess we’ll see this year.

Liam will be special acting a little more Calcaterra than Spencer but with even more size and probably better shooting.

Thrilled that Bossi is also saying UConn is looking good for Bundalo. I view him like Grant Nelson for Alabama who plays at the 4 for them at 6'10/6'11. Looking back at the box score he got 19pts and 15rb against us in the semi's

McNeeley now with more film

I was watching Darius Adams play Montverde from this past winter last night and McNeeley just pops constantly with the little plays.

Nelson is who i've been picturing as well. nelson/bundalo can play stretch C too if we wanna go 5-out. we've done it rarely w/ alex b/c he gives up too much size on D, but i'd like to work the 5-out into our offense more.

Liam could be 1 and done - he is our 5th highest ever recruit (according to 247). Castle was #2 for reference. We need these > 40% 3pt shooters to stretch their D and get the over rotations and screens going. Teams will follow them and maybe flare cut to their fave spot will work. I would rather get Mullins than Bundalo as Mullins can shoot almost 50% from trey.

Zero overlap between Mullins and Bundalo - we would happily take both.
