2025-26 Coaching Carousel

I thought the Foster hiring was a mistake from the start.

Not sure who is going to take that gig now - somebody should let UCLA know that Charlton is still kicking around on the Browns.

maybe this vt thing is a blessing in disguise.
if enough of these mid-tier P4s like VT, Pitt, BC, Syracuse, Wake, Louisiville, NC State, start getting left behind because they simply cannot compete in the new spending arms race, perhaps we have a chance to revive the big east glory days and get a great "PG" conference birthed to fill in this middle ground. between true G5 and top P3 (or honestly P2) -- finding a way to partner with Big 12 and become the true second tier beneath B1G and SEC... so we're at least not at the low end of FBS with the "G" schools.

the pessimisitc jetsky in me feels this is the best we can hope for, the way things are shaking out in CFB world.

EDIT - i think i just re-stated the "Big East/ACC merger" argument again, in a different way. lol my bad

a part of me also wonders if the B1G is secretly trying to find a way to kick out Rutgers & Maryland too, honestly. Unlikely, but with all the new additions and with properties like UNC and FSU / miami on the horizon, more mouths to feed = gotta make cuts somewhere. These 2 don't matter anymore to the equation, as far as I can see.

would be great to have them join us at the P5 "rejects" table lol
Welcome back, Jersey!

Rumor that Fickell is not going to last at Wisconsin much longer. Seemed like a no brainer but he could have stayed at Cincy and built something special. He’ll be tagged a fail at Wisconsin.

I wonder if they try to get Bielema away from Illinois.

Luke Fickell was king of Cincinnati. I still remember when he got them to the CFP and when his presence was announced at a Bearcat basketball game and he got a standing ovation. My times have changed.

They fired him because they had to have Chip Kelly. He was never more than average in Westwood.

He got distracted with a personal matter. Life happens. But you aren’t wrong.

From the sounds of it, I don’t think he liked the job anyways.

It’s funny because the last time UCLA was competitive was with Jim Mora.

Long but interesting story from earlier today:

-> Kelly, who was known more for his offensive scheming than his recruiting, signed classes according to 247Sports, ranked Nos. 19, 44, 31, 25, 29 and 25, a drop-off from Mora, his predecessor, whose classes consistently were ranked in the teens. When the program started winning again under Kelly, it was mostly done with transfers and under-recruited high school prospects. <-

I thought Fickell was going to be a home run hire for Wisconsin. Satterfield will probably get fired at Cincy so maybe another reunion is in store.

When Fickell was at Cincy, he was able to get better talent than the other schools in the AAC. When he left Cincy, Cincy was headed to the Big 12 and Cincy was probably going to struggle. Wisconsin looked like a good job as they were an upper tier Big 10 program, but Wisconsin won using a hard nosed style of play and developing players as they did not have better talent than many Big 10 schools. Fickell has not risen to the challenge.
