I can't understand how anyone didn't vote for Mikayla Blakes first team? It was either Sarah or Mikayla for player of the year. The voters are a mystery every year. Also, I noticed the Hidalgo received more first place votes but 5 less total votes which probably says that Azzi had all first and second team votes but HH probably had some third place votes that pulled down her total.

While KK has a stellar defensive game, I think it will be difficult to crack any of the All-American teams without double-digit points-per-game on the offensive side of the ball. It will be interesting to see continued growth in that area next year.

funkraider, I share your puzzlement, and take it one step further. The way the simple math works out (1st team vote = 5, second team vote = 3, third team vote = 1), Azzi's vote totals had to be 14 First Team and 17 Second Team. (14x5 + 17x3 = 121)

For the same reasons, Hidalgo's vote totals had to be 15 First Team, 13 Second Team, and two Third Team, with one voter keeping her off the ballot altogether. (15x5 + 13x3 + 2x1 = 116)

Congratulations to Sarah and Azzi.

A few years ago I thought Azzi's body would betray her and she'd never achieve her potential. She clearly has the motor and grit to overcome the setbacks and thrive, and the hard work she's put in has been validated by both team and personal success. She's ambitious and confident and not afraid to show it.

Sarah's personal growth has been astounding. Her interviews have evolved from last years goofball into this years serious and determined leader. She just puts the weight of the team on her shoulders and keeps going. Really excited to see how her personality continues to develop over the next 2 years.

Hidalgo loses her chance to be the 3rd player (joining Maya Moore and Courtney Paris) to be a 4-time 1st-Team AP All-American. JuJu still has a chance to join that group.

Not the sort of stats that gets to the AP list, traditionally. If she can develop some sort of consistency with an outside shot, maybe. If I’m in the FF I play off of her until time she shows me she can hit it beyond say 3 of 10.

I agree 100%, she gets no national credit at all, partly because she doesn’t get the minutes due to all the blowout victories where she sits like Azzi and Sarah rather than run up her stats against lesser opponents. I Can’t help but Notice that she and the Huskies outplayed and dominated several of the guards and their teams who are on the 2nd and third teams this year and in the Final Four. At least the AP got it right by putting Azzi on the 1st team unlike a few other entities.

Excuse me but did you not see her dominate inside and outside and all over the court on both offense and defense in the BE tournament while shooting 85% from the field and 67% from 3 point land ? For the season she’s shooting about 57% and 36% from 3. Not to mention leading the nation is assist to turnover ratio and the country’s most efficient offense and defense. Sheesh!

Booker is 3 for 3, I believe.

Will JuJu play for 4 years? My guess is that she goes pro after her 3rd year.

When those numbers start to include shots from say 12’ and beyond and there’s a level of consistency over the course of a season, count me in. Her FT% for a guard gives indication of the general lack of prowess for a consistent outside shot.

Interesting! Plus, Fudd (1), Miles (8), and Raven Johnson (2) were actually class of 2021. Only Betts (1), Rice (2), and Flau'jae Johnson (26) were in the 2022 cohort. See their HG class ranking in parentheses.
