Is there a flag bearer for each US team? I find it hard to believe he's the most deserving out of all US athletes.
I think there are 2 flag bearers. LeBron is 1, and maybe Simone Biles/Katie Ledecky?

I don't think any lifetime professional athlete should represent the US as flag bearer. The honor should represent personal sacrifice. A billionaire pro athlete just doesn't make sense. This is exactly what the US stands for, but I'd hope we'd pick a better representative.

Pro or amateur, it doesn’t matter anymore. LeBron might be one of the most recognizable people on the planet, and he’s honored.

He's been known to sit during the national anthem. He has no right carrying the flag.

If he respectfully took a knee, fine. But he's been known to walk in during the anthem, wearing a hat, taking a seat and talking with friends.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but if he doesn't respect the flag, he shouldn't be carrying it.

And if the anthem is played before each US game in Paris, and he doesn't stand, he should be escorted off the court and to the airport.

Would have liked a couple of track athletes to carry the flag. Noah Lyles and Sydney McLaughlin would have been good choices.
At the Olympic trials those atheletes show they love the country.

Anyone know how Tiffany wound up playing for Azerbaijan? AFAIK she doesn’t have any connections there. (Sloot and Quigley both played in Hungary, Gabbie has French family, as do the Samuelsons in England.)

To be honest, I never watched him during the anthem. If he’s as you say, then, yeah, he doesn’t deserve the honor.

Speaking for the older generation, the Olympics was always the showcase for Amateur athletics and in honor of that tradition (unfortunately long since gone) we should have Amateurs as flag bearers. Especially those who honor our flag. I would hope that there are a few of those left.

The 'amateur/pro' rule was changed before most of the current Olympians were born. Heck, the current US college student wouldn't pass as an amateur athlete based on the old rules and I suspect those rules for NCAA athletes will be further challenged in the coming years as direct payments to college students is coming and excluding high school age athletes because they have agents have received direct payments seems rather hypocritical.

I would have preferred a different male athlete as flag bearer, but ... I don't really care and he is certainly the most famous worldwide.

Flag Bearers are chosen by their teammates......................the entire U.S Olympic team............................ so yes, he is deserving.

They're picked by their delegation, not by their team. This changes nothing for me. If you don't stand for your flag, you have no right carrying it. If he even once sits during the US National Anthem during the Olympics, he should be flown home.

Oddly, I like James more than most. He's donated millions to kids struggle in school, and in life. He's very generous.

Coco was a great choice.
