Did you visit FGCU? Kids seems to love it. Much more suburban than the east coast. I like the northern areas of Florida, other than FSU and UNF, not sure what the options are. I’d encourage any kid that wants to got to UF or FSU and didn’t get in to take the sister community college route to admission. In the case of UF, kids that go to Sante Fe CC even get to participate in UF intramurals, clubs and Greek life. Not sure if FSU does that too.
We did a drive through of the FGCU campus between stops. Spent about 30 minutes checking out the campus and its buildings. We jokingly decided FGCU is where rich parents send their dumb kids. Kids not smart enough to get in to a better school, can attend class and not have much academic stress. Also a good school for a few sports like baseball where you can really concentrate on your craft and not worry about academics tripping you up.
We also got a kick out of the signs promoting the Miromar Lakes Golf villas around the campus with, as the big sign stated, "prices starting in the one millions".
As for "North Florida" aka the I-10 corridor, you got it right. It's Jacksonville area schools, FSU or West Florida all the way on the western panhandle. FSU has a similar program to UF and Sante Fe with its connection to Tallahassee CC. I am almost certain all the major florida universities have programs with local community college or state colleges. I do know Florida has a state wide program where, if you go to a community college or state college and get your associates with a certain GPA (i think it's 3.0 or above) you are guaranteed admission in to a four year Florida university to complete your bachelor's.
