He sure looked a lot bigger than 6'2" and 210.

An inch taller and same weight as Charles Woodson in his heyday. Not comparing the two, obviously. Just saying that a frame like that is capable of doing damage on both sides of the ball when it belongs to super athletic people who seek out contact.

He looked like everything to me based on his film. I can't remember a highlight tape that long that had absolutely zero fluff clips in it. Not a one.
I looked at his verified times on his profile. He ran a 4.71/4.56 Forty/Shuttle but that was in February of 2019. I can image what that split might look like in August of 2021

MP, can you simplify what that means? In 1988, the assistant coach/bus driver timed our 40's on a calculator watch. Is 4.71 his worst 40 time and 4.56 his best?

I'll take a stab at it.

4.71 is his 40 time.
4.56 is his shuttle time

Thanks, Chin. Just like you mentioned earlier about him playing bigger on film compared to his size, he sure as heck looks faster than a 4.71/40 number on tape too.

Generally speaking, even if he played at a small school against marginal competition, there should be some bigger or better athletes on some of that film.

I thought he seemed quicker also..
He is very fluid and smooth in his initial acceleration. Gets off the ball very fast.
Made me think OLB. Can see him closing ground behind the line of scrimmage real quick.

I wonder if his position preference was a factor in him cutting the P5 schools from his top 5

Sometimes a guy plays faster than his recorded 40 speed might indicate.

Vision, anticipation, quick starts, fluid hips...all contribute to football linebacker speed.

I've seen all-conference short stops who had a very quick first six steps but could not win a race to the fence in practice.

Speed helps, but if he plays TE, good blocking and great route running mixed with good hands can help with the a relatively slower 40 time.

That being said welcome to the pound!

This recruiting class is getting me so hyped for this coming season.

He can ball. That's what matters most with this kid. We'll find a way for him to produce. We need to keep bringing in ballers rather than prototypes.
Yup. Been saying that for 3 years. I’d rather get a a skilled football player a step slower, because 98% of the time they will make up the difference with better angles, quicker reads and faster paths to the ball, and instinctive play making.
