Lucas Taylor was recently extended an offer from UConn's Dan Hurley. He’s a 6’6 SG from Wake Forest, NC ranked #132, 3-star on Rivals, not yet ranked on 247. He's a late bloomer that has seen his recruitment blow up in recent months and now has over 20 D-1 offers; he had only one or two a few months ago. His offer list includes Arizona State, Marquette, Providence, Vandy, Wake Forest, VCU and he's getting serious interest from over a dozen other programs.

Lucas Taylor Class of 2021 Heritage High School Highlights

6'6 shooter. HS coach listed him at 190lbs on Maxpreps. 21.6/5.1/2.3....56% from the field. 40% from 3. 81% FT. Working out 3x a day through quarantine. I don't know much, but that's a pretty good start.

Couple of left hand finishes in the highlights is good to see. Good frame.

Highlights seems to show a knockdown shooter and pretty good straightline drive ability albeit versus just okay competition. Great arc. Layups off his left or both feet. Bunch of backcut plays when he was being faceguarded--nice ability to have.

Offers from Alabama, Virginia Tech, AZ State, Providence, Xavier, Marquette, etc.

People seem to believe athletic evolution stopped when MJ retired. The rules on Defense were certainly less restricted, but the overall level of athleticism was much lower. Lebron isn't being guarded by Craig Ehlo six times per season. And that is no disrespect to Ehlo, but he wouldn't even make an NBA roster in today's League. He was one of the best defenders at the 2-guard position when he played.
Love his game but that is the lowest shot release ive seen in a while.

Pretty quick release, especially when needed. Another Steph Curry fan.

I'm looking more at his feet, hips, and hand position, and time to get off the shot--all of which look pretty good. His balance on tough shots sticks out to me as being particularly advanced. He also shot off the dribble after dribbling with both hands. He does grip the ball a little wonky though. Might not be a big deal, don't know enough to judge really.

Raising your set point is less of a challenge than fixing a hitch, especially a hip hitch (which is one of the things we've agreed on being a concern with Ellis).

Like he said in his interviews--getting to be more of a shifty ballhandler and finisher seems to be the next point of improvement based on the highlights.

Would be curious to know what the staff thinks. Low shot could be a reason for our late offer--who knows.

Staff digging a little deeper on these 2021s now. They must not like the feedback they’re getting from the handleful of kids we were initially after.

Yeah...the Hunter and Taylor offers today are interesting. I'm hoping it's more to put pressure on some of these other guys and less about how we feel about our chances. Would love to hear some news about Zoom visits with guys like Allen/Longino/Hawkins. Seems to be quiet as of late on the 2021 front outside of Ellis.

I try not to read too much into it. This staff seems to do a good job of offering a handful of guys at 1 position & keeping a hard press on them all. Wong & Gaffney & Hyland, Akok & Mading**(idk if that’s how it’s spelled). The kid who’s goin to auburn & Javonte Brown Ferguson....

the height of his release aside, when shooting off the dribble, he seems to shoot from over his shoulder instead of centering the ball with respect to his body.

A few of these guys don't have composites listed yet. But all of the guys we're still recruiting heavily are on TOS. Am I missing anyone for 2021?

Tyrese Hunter -- 91 (80 composite)
Nisine Poplar -- 107 (no composite)
Samson Johnson -- 110 (88 composite)
Jaylen Blakes -- 125 (103 composite)
Lucas Taylor -- 130 (122 composite)
Jordan Riley -- 138 (no composite)

Seems like a pretty smart plan of action from the coaches. High 3-star/low 4-star players that fit our needs.

quincy allen?
jordan hawkins?
rahsool diggins?
jakai robinson?

I meant from the lower-rated guys. That wasn't super clear. Not sure we're actually recruiting Jakai Robinson seriously? IDK

Seen his recruitment blow up in recent months hmmmm! Now how did that happen without any ball in recent months?
