2019 Roster is up

Carlton: 6'11" 265lbs. What a transformation

too bad he can't share some lbs with the rest of the frontcourt. akok 6'9 195, springs 6'9 200, polley 6'8 200. whaley really did get up to 225 tho

It would have been nice to see Polley add more weight considering how much time he's on the floor, but it is what it is

And it looks like all muscle:

Springs should be working out with Whaley.

Anyone think we'll see lineups with Polly, Sid, and Akok on the court?

Whaley has looked noticeably bigger, but 225 seems ambitious. Either way, with our lack of size, we’re going to need a lot of weak side rim protection from Akok/Sid/Springs when Whaley is at the 5.

The August optimism is strong! My three keys to a Huskies turnaround this year:

Akok - Needs to be as good as billed and an above average inside-out player

Bouknight/Gaffney - One of em needs to step up and balance the floor and keep a defender locked in to let AG penetrate

AG - needs to stay healthy.

It is a lot to ask of much from Freshman, but they have a good opportunity to stand out on this team.

Springs listed at 6'9
The most amazing part of this roster is when you look at the relative height versus weight comparison between the freshman/first year players and those that have been with the team for at least a year. I know that some of that is tied to age and natural growth, but seeing CV at the same height as Gaffney with 12lbs more. Or AG being 4" shorter than JB and still being 5lbs heavier. I know there are outliers and different factors that play into individual weight/muscle growth, but it's super encouraging to see our guys getting bigger and stronger. Now we just have to see how it plays out on the court!

Akok is 6' 9, 195. How many guys on the board are the same weight and a foot shorter?

I wish. I'm 30 pounds heavier. He can have 50 of mine. 175 would be ideal.

Josh Carlton at 265lbs is insane. That's 30 pounds heavier than last year! Is that too much weight?

Akok at 195 is disappointing but it's been pretty apparent that he's put a lot of work in. Feel like he is the biggest question mark going in to next year. Would love to see him have a great year.

People sleeping on this kid. I expect him to be 210-15 when all is said and done and be one of the linebacker type guards that have always given us fits.

He needs to be exceptional in one of the following categories to break out: speed, handle, shooting or D.

I didn't see him ready to break out in any of these. Given his size, he can offer a better player a good breather if he is a solid defender, but its hard to put a player in for extended minutes if his size only makes him marginally better on D than another player the helps the offense flow.

Yeah, I don't like Carlton at that weight. Fortunately, speed and explosion weren't the keys to his success but I have a hard time believing 30 extra lbs won't affect his endurance.

Disappointing might be a bit strong. Not too many guys look less able to put on significant weight than Akok. Just a real skinny dude, it's in his genes. Doesn't mean he won't continue to put on some weight as he grows a bit older. Would love for him to get up to 200 by conference play.

Totally understand. My reaction is based on previous reports which have indicated that he has been able to gain weight. Last month, the Courant had him up 6lbs. But at 195lbs, he's still the same weight he was coming out of high school. Some recruiting sites even had him listed at 200lbs prior to coming to UConn.

Courant: Akok Akok working quietly, diligently to improve his game for UConn men
