On the D1baseball.com website, two of their writers are predicting the eight teams that will make it to Omaha next June. Neither of them picked UConn. However, one team that Aaron Fitt picked is a club that the Huskies are very familiar with from AAC play:

>>East Carolina
After winning a regional in 2016 and hosting a regional in 2018, East Carolina looks ready to make a strong run at finally breaking down the door to Omaha in 2019. AAC player of the year Bryant Packard and fellow rising junior Spencer Brickhouse will be back to give the Pirates two premium lefthanded bats in the heart of the lineup. Jake Washer will provide additional pop from the right side and a veteran presence behind the plate. The slick middle infield duo of Brady Lloyd and Turner Brown returns intact, and two-way talent Alec Burleson figures to take another leap as a sophomore.

Burleson is also a key part of what should be a deep pitching staff. Expect much bigger things from power-armed rising juniors Trey Benton and Jake Agnos next year, giving the Pirates a potentially dominant one-two punch if they can put it all together. Agnos has turned the corner and is currently shining for Team USA this summer. Gavin Williams has one of the biggest arms in college baseball and should make a huge impact as a sophomore whether he’s at the back of the bullpen or in the rotation. Sinkerballer Tyler Smith (7-1, 1.78) was a revelation as a sophomore this spring and will be back to gobble up valuable innings next year.<<
