2019 Baseball Winter Meetings

Lots of jockeying leading up to the Winter Meetings that begin in today in Las Vegas.

JA Happ, Dallas K and Charlie Morton out there. Plue Bryce, Manny and AJ. Plus Craig Kimbrel.

The the Hall of Fame has called Lee Smith and Harold Baines.

It took Smith 21 years and Baines 17 years to make it. And check out Baines' age 40 season...wow.

Yankees cut loose from Bryce Harper connection but still chatting up Manny. Hopefully Yanks are talking to Cleveland about Kluber.

For Thor's age, performance and contract status, that's a horrible trade for the Mets.

Definitely. Not sure what 'TBD' will end up being but I do agree they'd need more than Realmuto to trade away Thor. Maybe Sonny Gray ends up there? Doesn't solve the "can't pitch in New York" problem but *could* solve the "can't pitch in Yankee Stadium" problem. Or maybe Greg Bird as a holdover until Alonso is ready? Maybe a bullpen arm from somewhere. Not sure.

After beating the "we need a real catcher" drum for the past several years, I can't fault them for trying to fill that need; nor can I overlook that fact that great catchers are very, very rare in MLB--more so than I appreciated when I first started bitching about it (and before I had friends with kids who are legit pro prospects and are being converted to catchers because of the desperate need for them).

That said, no he's not Johnny Bench. And he's only under team control for two more years. So, yeah, the Mets need to get a lot more in the deal for that to make sense as a return on Thor.

This trade only makes sense for the Mets if they get a king's ransom for Syndergaard or if he were in the last year under Mets' control. Neither is the case. He's a Met for three more seasons.

The Phillies finally spring. Sign McCutchen for three seasons. They need to add to Nola, Arrieta, Pivetta and Eflin.

Happ for 3 years makes sense. He's proven he can pitch both in New York and at Yankee Stadium. A very good middle rotation guy.
