2019-2020 UConn Men's Hockey

I'm just a casual fan but enjoy following the team and going to a couple XL games a years. Whats the prognosis for next year's from someone who follows closer than me? Returning talent? Recruits?

>>UConn men’s hockey defenseman Philip Nyberg is turning pro. The would-be senior is returning back home to Sweden to play in HockeyAllsvenskan, the country’s second-division league, a source confirmed. Nyberg wasn’t sure of what his role would be with the Huskies this upcoming season and ultimately just wanted to go back home. However, his departure is amicable. <<

>>While UConn is losing one defenseman, they will be gaining another. The UConn Blog also learned that elite Russian recruit Yan Kuznetsov will come to Storrs this fall instead of 2020. Despite only being 17 years old, Kuznetsov is one of the top prospects to commit to UConn and is expected to be a first round pick in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft.<<

Kuznetsov is 17y/o w/ a 6-3, 210lb build.

That's great to get him on campus ASAP
Nyberg had a nice heavy shot from the point but didn't do much else for a big defenseman

Miami is a really cool OCC opponent to have at home!

A program that hasn't been to an NCAA Tournament since 2015 is a "Really cool" opponent to have at home? Ok. They won 11 games last year.

Do we try to schedule Big Ten schools?

Oppo of last years backload.

They play 5 in 14 days at home then 4 in 53 if Maine in BPort is counted as home....

Im pretty sure we played penn state last year. Have played notre dame (which is big ten for hockey) in years past.

Fewer teams are scheduling big name OOC opponents, they've figured out that PWR doesn't reward playing better teams, it rewards winning more games. It sucks for fans because OOC schedules are becoming more ho-hum.

Also B1G teams are notoriously difficult to schedule series with because they often try to get you to come fly out west on the first weekend of the season which is baaaaaaaad idea.

Honestly I am of the school that says Winning should be #1. I think strength of schedule is the biggest phony stat on the planet. And it’s worse in hockey than many other sports since a hot goaltender can and often does make a team much better on the ice than on paper in any given game. I’d rather win 30 vs the #49 schedule than 6 against the #1

Where does Firstov go in the draft tomorrow night? Most of the scouting ranks him in the low second-high third round range, but one combine has him #23?

*Friday night but I’m with ya

Its selfish, but fingers crossed he doesn't go high enough Friday night to reconsider his commitment ;)

Depends on the Wolfpack schedule.
3:30 or 7:00 depending on who goes 1st

There are only five Saturday home games for UConn men's ice hockey.
